Newberry Cave
Has anyone hiked to Newberry Cave? I spent a half day this past weekend up in the Newberry Mountains looking for it, but didn't find it. I'm going back this weekend with additional pictures of the site, so I think I can find it this time. The cave walls are covered with some ancient Native American ...

Re: Hey Everyone!
Another Claremont resident here. I'd be up for a hike around the Baldy area when the smoke clears.

Wow, really cool videos!
Can you tell if they look well fed? If not, I'm staying out of the area!

Re: Dawson & Pine 8-23
Nice trip report! Also want to add that we got a glimpse of a bear when we were at the saddle between Baldy and Dawson. I only got a glimpse of its ass, but it was still cool!
Yeah, I'd be up for a hike to Baldy from Wrightwood. I need to scout out that area.

Re: Langley Peak 8-1
It is unusual for snow to be a problem on Old Army Pass once August comes, but it certainly was a problem still this past weekend. There is one big icy patch up near the pass that does not have a boot track through it from what we could see. It has to be avoided by doing some exposed Class 3 moves ...

Re: Baldy Village to Wrightwood
I'm definitely doing this hike! The only question is how long will it take for me to get in shape for it. Hopefully not long. Ze, Rick, let's do this! The Sierra Challenge sounds awesome. I'll definitely give it a try next year. I hiked Langley and Whitney back to back over the July 4th weekend. Eve...

Re: Baldy Village to Wrightwood
It would be cool to hike from town to town while bagging 4 peaks along the way! And I like the idea of having a nice lunch in the middle of a hike. Unfortunately, setting up a car shuttle for this would be a bit of a pain, so I'm just going to try and do it as a back and forth. I need the exercise a...

Re: Baldy Village to Wrightwood
Whoah, thanks for the detailed breakdown, particularly the section between Wrightwood and Pine Mt.! I'm not going to do this right now, but I might give it a try later in the fall when it cools down. I've done Baldy Village to Pine Mt. a while back, so I'm aware of some of the difficulties and am fa...

Baldy Village to Wrightwood
I'm thinking of hiking from Baldy Village to Wrightwood and back in a day. The plan would be to leave early and get to Wrightwood around 11am or so for lunch, and then hike back to Baldy Village before sunset. For those who've done the hike, how was it? Any recommendations for lunch at Wrightwood?

Re: Iron Mt. via north ridge from Fish Fork
Sounds good. The SW route via Alison Gulch seemed pretty rough too, so I'm not sure it's a good route for the descent. Let me know when you'd like to scout out the mine.

Re: Iron Mt. via north ridge from Fish Fork
Ze, is the western route you're thinking of via allison gulch? i saw this trip report on summitpost: http://www.summitpost.org/trip-report/3 ... ution.html were you thinking of descending this way, or ascending this way on a separate trip? if descending, we definitely need to scout it out beforehand...

Re: Iron Mt. via north ridge from Fish Fork
yeah, i don't want to do it in 90+ degree weather, so i'm watching the weather forecasts pretty closely. we had fabulous weather this june. will need some luck to be able to do it in july/august/september, but maybe another cold front will roll in. i did iron for the first time in may during an abno...

Re: Bobcat, fawn, deer 06/22/09
Love all the wild animal videos and pictures. I always hope that I spot some wild animals when I go hiking. I've seen a bear, a bobcat and lots of deer, but have not yet seen a mountain lion or Bighorn Sheep.

Re: Iron Mt. via north ridge from Fish Fork
Alright! Part of me is intching to do it this weekend, but I'm just going to take it easy. I'm dayhiking Whitney the following weekend, so I don't want to take any risks before then. My understanding is that there is a decent amount of class 3 climbing involved, so maybe the weekend after your San J...

Iron Mt. via north ridge from Fish Fork
I read a trip report on SummitPost about this hike and was wondering if any of you have done it. Based on the trip report, I've attempted to map out the route. The route is pretty clear to me all the way to the south Fish Fork branch. I'm not sure about the location of the gully. Does this look righ...
