Re: 20100904 Panamint City

Took a look through an old photo album and scanned a couple of my photos from May 1977. Incredible. Thanks for going through the effort! It's really cool to have a few more *cough* vintage *cough* pictures floating around the net. ;) Panamint City cabin. This cabin, a little further up a small nort...

Re: 20100904 Panamint City

In '76 or '77 we drove our big ole' 4WD Ford truck up Surprise Canyon got tours of the cabins. You should see the road now! You'd need a helicopter to drive up that canyon. :D walked into the mine closest to the smelter chimney. It was a fun day. Glad to see the chimney and a cabin still standing. ...

20100904 Panamint City

Filmed and edited by me for fun; it's a 6 minute short that was shot in September of 2010 but not edited until after I finished the Mohave and Crystal Cave projects. I think the weaker shots are contrasted against stronger editing to give the film an interesting feel. Finally, I made this as a word ...

For what it's worth, Robert at Detour hooked me up amazingly quickly with a GoLite pack on the shortest of notices. I'd buy his gear again any day.

Sounds like 3/2 mm wet suits and neoprene socks are a must. Good plan, river was pretty chilly! Does anyone know if there will be "heavy water" rappels? Turbulent holes at the end of the rap? Taco might know. ;) Seriously though, you might want to bring an ascender combo for the first per...

The press release in which they constricted the restrictions gave the impression that we were looking at another year at the least. You could probably find that link in the news section here.

I went up the East Fork last weekend. Went all the way up to the Narrows. The water isn't too bad. I'm 6'3" and at the very worst it came up to my crotch. For an experienced canyoneer the crossings before the gulch are child's play. I can't speak for the canyoneering section but the water flowi...

Hahahahaha!

I had a pair of dog boots disintegrate after two trips. Returned promptly, felt no guilt.

If something is an obvious defect or ends up not being designed to withstand the amount of use it will receive I don't see any reason not to return it.

I've always wondered when you would prefer a bowline over something like a figure-8 on a bight. Or prefer a bowline on a bight over a figure-8 double loop or butterfly.

I saw it two months ago in Ojai, outside in the cold, with no seats, for the same amount of money.

Re: Holy Jim...good stories?

I should probably ask while it's on topic...

Anyone heard or seen an abandoned forest service tractor and or tourmaline mine up neighboring Bell canyon?

I had a report of them and I probably did 40 miles in the canyon trying to find it and never saw anything other than a ditched dune buggy.

20101204-5 East Fork through trip

Some buddies and I hiked Vincent Gap to Heaton flat this weekend. • Ladybugs! (around mine fork and south of fish fork) • Gorgeous orange rosy boa (seemed to be stuck between the river and cliff walls so we relocated him to a slightly drier climate). • I was waiting for a while in the morning for an...

Had plenty of friendly "hello" waves from hikers, too. I had one FLASH me at sunset up in Afton canyon last winter. It kept taking pictures for a while, judging by the flashes. I'm sure whoever planted it got some great, "What the hell" shots of me investigating the camera. I sh...

Accepting creative critiques?
The clips toward the end have a bit of pop-in, is there a setting to increase the draw distance?
Have you thought about changing the color temperature or saturation to make it seem more photorealistic?

So you're saying it was bush whacking on a graded road most of the way?

I played around near the trailhead two years back, found that old mine sans barbed wire - http://dav.me/gallery/v/hiking/LosAngel ... anyonMine/
