Re: Baldy Mega Loop - 15 Peaks in Day (6/11/11)
My friend Brian was doing the 11 peak loop and started one hour behind you. He said he met you by Etiwanda. When he told me you were doing the 15 peaks we both wondered if you were going to get a shuttle lift. Never thought about going down to Lytle creek and coming back up that way  That’s s...

Headed out Sunday to Cucamonga and found this doo-rag sticking out of a snow bank on the east side of Bighorn. As first glance I thought someone ripped off your logo but at further inspection it was missing the ice tools. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/gallery.myff.org/gallery/1030929/Pictur...

Re: SR-39 (San Gabriel Canyon Road)
We didn't need chains, nothing special was required on the bike, and it was fun downhill. 25 miles of downhill, I think? Who needs chains? Easy to carry em with you  https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/gallery.myff.org/gallery/1022923/diytires3.jpg Taco, did you happen to look Iron's way a...

Norma, like your pictures! Nothing like making first tracks I'm going to try to get over to Dry Lake tomorrow. Hope the snow is still decent. HJ Hey kids, This question reminds me: I'm going to try and summit Marion, Jean, and then San Jacinto from the Deer Springs TH on Sat/Sun, and I'm wondering i...

Nice report AW. Thanks for the beta. Been wanting to do the Mermaids for awhile now. I haven’t been in that area myself. Trying to figure which way to go up. Have you been up Big Mermaids Canyon and maybe try and do peak 4065 from the south? Do you think the brush would be worse then from the north?...

Sounds ike a fun day to me! :D I had no idea Lapis is mined in Calif. Hope you find the mine eventually. Really like your makeshift axes. Quite creative! You had great weather and views since winter showed its face on Sunday. I can't comment on the hand reaction, any doctors out there?... Thanks No...

Cascade Canyon_Bighorn Mine_Ontario Pk
I thought I would have to wait until springtime to try and locate Bighorn Mine. I had been up there earlier before the big rains came a few months back and found out later that there was an old Lapis Lazuli mine and I had been only a couple hundred feet away from the supposed location. http://www.mi...

Sorry to hear you’re leaving. I always enjoyed your unique hiking trips and write ups. I’m sure you’ll be back some day to complete one of those ridgelines or peaks around here you somehow missed. I understand Bob Burd is looking for someone to turn the SC reins over to. Can’t think of anyone more q...

Re: Iron to Baldy Traverse
LD, There are some sport routes in Cascade Canyon from the 80's. That's what I was looking for, though I think they're lower, as I doubt the climbers accessed via Ontario. I have some nice shots of the north face of that Canyon. That's probably what you're talking about. One shot has some sort of l...

Re: Iron to Baldy Traverse
Have to agree with Taco if you go the wrong way it’s a major brush fest. Trying to gain the S/W ridge where it meets Stoddard Road past Stoddard Flat is an exercise in futility. Way too much brush and slow going. Don’t even think about Barret Canyon from what I saw from above. If you go up Cascade C...

I don't think I'll ever return! That's exactly what we said :D It took us a year to even think about going back there. So by next October you should be itching to lead your friends back there. Nice work Ze! How’s it feel to conquer that bad boy? It’s hard to describe to anyone how hard that ridge until you’ve done it. That going back up is just a killer. No surprise not all of you made it. Almost impossible to get 5 people going at the same pace on that ridge. You made great time too eve...

Hiked to SJ Saturday. Met those two skiers on top just before they dropped down the north face. One had a helmet cam. 30 minutes later met the snowboarders coming up to the top going to do the same thing. Thinking to myself the way this year is turning out they’ll probably run into someone climbing ...

Excellent climb Sam. Hard enough without blisters.
Damn, if I don't get off the stick and get around to doing this climb I'll need to enter a lottery to get a permit

"Bravo Zulu" to you guys. A lot of great pics and landmarks. With this route seemingly becoming more popular within the last few years it'll be nice to have a "legal" option if the hammer ever comes down.

Thanks for your response, Lyn. You must have followed our tracks from Friday all the way up to the summit of Ontario Peak. Did you see our tracks heading down the west ridge of Ontario Peak? Yeah, I saw that. I've been eying that SW ridge. Thinking of starting from stoddard flats though and coming ...

Re: Falling Rock Canyon (Sugarloaf Peak)
Sam, Did the FRC to Sugarloaf, Ontario, Bighorn loop this morning. Can’t tell you about conditions in FRC past the saddle though. Once you get past the first waterfall there’s a snow tongue all the way up to the Sugarloaf saddle and beyond. Class 2 at most. Didn’t need crampons after the first hour....

Nice job on that! Wecome to the @#%@# club
I did it about 4 years ago but doing it from west to east like Rick. What stood out most was how rotten that rock was and great views across Mill Creek.
