Re: Santa Ana Mtns:Missing hiker found
When are we gonna find out the exact number of Easter 'brownies' these two polished off before things kicked in and it really became more than a day 'trip'... Normally I'd blame these kind of shenanigans on excessive alcohol but they were under 21.... wait a minute, that never stopped some of us :P ...

Been meaning to compliment you on this TR and your Brown Mt. TR --- nicely written with lots of good trail info... That Brown Mt. TR, 10.5 hours, wow, a fun but long day ehh  Pretty cool that you didn't settle for a car shuttle or 'pick me up when I'm done' finish... Back to your Grand Canyon ...

More great pics Blueshammer - you're on a roll. Yours and other trip reports are always appreciated - especially for folks like myself that just can't get there like we used to :? Wouldn't it be sweet if we could see a photo of this cabin in it's glory years... Can only imagine sitting there on the ...

Thanks for posting this Blueshammer! Such a lovely area...
That's what's so wonderful about the San Gabriels --- you have areas like this [essentially west of San Gabriel Canyon] and then not too far away, you can get into some nice/more 'alpiney' areas like in Ice House Canyon etc etc...

Re: Books on San Gabriel Mountain History
Thanks for the list! There are quite a few books there that I didn't know about! So much history.... and so many stories connected to this mountain range... Wow, John Muir sure had an incredible way with words... he could paint more than a picture, you can almost feel it when he wrote... Thanks so ...

Re: Official "People falling in Eaton Canyon" thread
Cougarmagic, you're on a roll... So good/funny, it had to be bulleted :) * a crumbled gully where you grab roots to haul yourself up. * goes to the steep gully with a few rotted hardware store ropes tied to dead tree roots, * spray paint rocks and jump off a 40' cliff into a 6' deep pool, so you can...

Re: Official "People falling in Eaton Canyon" thread
There are a couple sections of traverse that are basically vertical. Though there are some hand and footholds, they're made of our lovely crumbly granite. There isn't anything solid to anchor a rope to. Thanks for the info cougarmagic... So going down [or back up] from the Razor Back to to the top ...

Re: Official "People falling in Eaton Canyon" thread
My Eaton curiosity continues so I went to google earth this time. The turquoise line I drew - is that the infamous Razor Back ridge? And is this where most falls occur? On the same line, after the ? mark, what route do the 'tourons' go from there to get to the second waterfall? [Hopefully I've...

Thanks for posting news21, a feature on this forum I've always enjoyed... It's really interesting to see how the so cal [massive] population interacts with the 'local' mountains... sometimes it's pretty, other times not. That helicopter sounds tempting: "Pilots take a Bell 206B-III JetRanger ch...

Re: Official "People falling in Eaton Canyon" thread
Seems every time you turn on the TV news they are showing more Eaton Canyon rescues than drive-by shooting reports :P Seeing as I'm a giant chicken, trail words like 'razorback' lead me the other way, so going to Eaton Canyon's second falls was only going to happen this way, so to speak/see... https...

Speaking of sleazy. When we were younger and broke, me and my girlfriend of the time were in San Diego for the weekend. It was around 8pm when we found a motel that looked ok. I asked how much for a room and the clerk told me $50.00. Then he said that he would give me the room for $20.00 if we were ...
