Who is this Jon and does he want to try LPP again? I'm pretty much dying to climb it. And soon.

Re: Marmot PreCip Jacket is FAIL
Anyone have experience with sil-nylon shells? Seems like that would be the lightest, most compact option. That stuff is pretty darn waterproof, though I can't guess at its durability and breathability.

Thanks all!
In the end, I opted to just massively overinflate my Thermarest. Seems to work wonders! Not sure why I didn't try that one before...

Re: Big packs
Out of curiosity, what exactly does one put in a 95 liter pack? My pack is 40L and it fits everything necessary for a 3 day winter burl-fest. That includes a bunch of wintery objects that would be smaller/non-existent on a summer trip. If you were doing Denali or something, maybe I could see 95L bei...

There's a little protected area to the right after the chockstone. Maybe that would be a good option. It's way out of the main col.

Well... Don't beat yourself up too much Ryan. You were an invaluable resource and I think we owe any success to your route finding. I personally have no desire to be "guided" up a mountain military fashion. A text message stating that you'd bailed would have been nice so I wouldn't have wa...

Winter sleeping pad ideas?
Hey kids, It has become obvious that my super lightweight 3/4 length inflatable Thermarest pad doesn't really cut it for winter camping. However, I'm really reluctant to add any weight to my pack. Perhaps the Thermarest Ridgerest is the way to go? A 3/4 pad would be cheap, light, and small. Just not...

Yeah... I've been working a ton. And when I work, it's generally a sort of all consuming kind of deal. Went to Fresno for a bit and shot a giant dairy farm and some computer recycling facilities. Did a short film about the LA riots, etc etc. But I'm back now!!! Let's go! https://eispiraten.com/image...

Re: Marmot PreCip Jacket is FAIL
Here's a question for you... Did you wear the jacket with a layer underneath, keeping it separate from your skin? The oil in your skin will defeat the waterproof membrane in fabrics like Event, Hyvent, Precip, etc. I've worn my North Face lightweight shell in a pinch over a t-shirt and had poor luck...

Yeah totally. And if the conditions are pretty good, I think we could do it in a day. Get there early, hike in by headlamp. Summit the col and head back down. It would be pretty epic, but not too bad I think.

We'll be back. We have a score to settle! Maybe next time we give the snow a chance to consolidate too... I think Zach and I both feel sort of dumb about not summiting. The weather that showed every sign of whiting out our retreat actually dissolved during our descent. And we could have placed wands...
