Re: What made these tracks?
[quote="ZachHey can someone identify this footprint. I was discussing it with my cousin who thinks it could be a fox, but the lack of claw-prints make it seem like it could be a bobcat or maybe something else. Also, the animal is laying down sets of 3 prints, which my cousin said is done by a f...

Hey, the fun would be in seeing how many PB&J sandwiches you can wolf down in 3 minutes with nothen to drink. Seriously though, I think I found a pretty killer loop. Nothing super epic, but a loop that I don't think has been done in awhile. Maybe 16-20 miles RT. Killer in the sense that th...

Hey Brian - glad to see you got out. And I'm especially glad to see your girl didn't mind spending Valentine's strapped to a couple oversized rackets on her feet. You better keep her. And hopefully you spent a romantic evening with her Saturday evening. Nice TR. Pictures look really nice. ...

Re: Are the San Gabriel Mountains haunted?
I don't know whether the San Gabriels are "haunted" but there are some good stories of the area. I remember one my grandfather told me when I was a kid and I googled it and something actually came up. This was the story of Suicide Bridge "......According to the tales, a number of spir...

Zach - are you considering starting at the base of the mountain (in the City) and bagging the peak? Up and back in a day?
Damn dude, whatever happened to strolling up to the peak, having a PB&J sandwich and strolling back to the car?

Wow. I like this link. I can't believe you have such an extensive library of nude females.
As muchas I enjoyed them, you should prolly correct your link to correct photo album.
Nice pics though.

Re: The history of Switzer's Camp
This is pretty neat stuff. I've alway sbeen interested in the history of many places. I have a large collection of books which explaine the history of places such as the Sierras, Seqouia's and even the San Gabriel's. I think a couple of my books date back to 1920's.

That was my thought when one pic showed 3 packs but only one shovel. If the guy with the shovel gets buried what do you use to dig him out? And don't forget the avy beacons. (I'm just a little paranoid.) asabat - hey there. We actually had two shovels on this trip. One shovel was removed from the p...

so were you intending on going up the normal use trail? was it covered in brush at somepoint, which is why you descended to another use trail? just wondering b/c that standard use trail is normally not too bad brush wise, although I don't know what the snow did to it! Re: Baldy Bowl and Ski Hut Trail
Hey Brian - I think the Ski Hut trail from Manker Flat to the base of the bowl, and then the west ridge up to the summit is an awesome snow shoe route. Not to steep, yet steep enough that you know you are doing some good elevation gain in a short distance. For more steep ridgeline, I Register Ridge ...

Tracks - if those tracks were on a trail or road where people would take dogs, I might lean toward dog, just because that would be the most common. If it was on a ridgeline, off trail, I would say lion. It's hard to tell with the loose dirt. Whatever it was, it was traveling at a higher rate of spe...

I agree a lot with what Zach says above. But as there are many different people with as many different types of physical characteristics, there are probably an uncountable number of different training techniques. I for one, am someone who can hike in the 12-20 mile range (depending on elevation gain...
