So those are Leopard Lillies? I've been calling them Tiger Lillies.
The tiger lillies and leopard lillies look very similar, but the leopard lillies have a lot of spots. hence the name "leopard"

Re: July 11 broken ankle medevac by helo near Baldy Ski Hut

I don't know, but I think if I broke an ankle, unless it was a compound fracture, I would be able limp and stumble out on my own accord. And if I had friends with me, I'm sure they could help me hobble out. but to call in a helovac? Now thats a lot of tax payers money down the drain. I wonder what t...

Re: Sespe Wilderness

There's actually several hikes in Sespe area. Some are pretty rugged "canyoneering" type hikes, other are pretty easy. You can always make a long day hike to the hot pools out there. I hear Tar Creek is nice with good fishing at the confluence with Sespe Creek. Some deep, deep swiming pool...

Re: Hiking out of Country

Depending upon when you are going you should keep in mind that all southern hemisphere locations are gonna be in "winter" conditions. Look into the Scottish Highlands, I heard it's a beautiful place to do some backpacking. Yeah, I heard same thing - maybe from you. I read somewhere about ...

Yeah, the other one compresses small too, but I don't think it is as durable as the Sierra Designs one. I've had my Sierra Designs rainshell for almost 6 years now and it still looks brand new. Very durable. I don't use it much anymore, ad I bought a Marmot shell that compresses down to about a thir...

I thought of the West Coast Trail, BC, Canada. But I think Canada is too close too home. I'm looking for something farther out. This will be an almost "once in a lifetime" trip.

First - I would go to REI instead of Sport Chalet. REI has some great items on sale right now, especially rain/wind shells. I always carry a lightweight to midweight base layer top (patagonia or similar) in my pack along with a very light rain/wind shell jacket and pants. Last August, I was in Dusy ...

Sequoia - Lakes Trail July 16-18, 2009

It's almost an annual tradition for me to hike the Lakes Trail out of the old Mt Wolverton ski area parking lot. Tradition is to hike to Pear Lake, via the Watchtower trail, camp at Pear Lake, then do day hikes to Alta Peak, Moose Lake, back to Aster Lake and Emeral Lake and in general, run all over...

I've been to Devils Punchbowl quite a few times. From your pics, looks like you are close, but not close enough. And you're right, it's a "must see' area for anyone passing through that area.

Gotta love those "suicide" trips. Drive up one night, hike next morning then drive straight back. I did that 6 weeks ago. Drove 7 hours, slept 2.5 hours, hike/climb 9 hours, drove 7 hours back home. I heard there was some severe lightning storms on the eastern side of the sierras (I was in...

FS: Mountain Hardwear Sprite 1 ultralight solo tent

I picked up a Mountain Hardwear Sprite 1 ultralight solo tent and was a bit to quick in buying it. It's now for sale. Asking $120, but may be able to work with that. Shoot me a PM if interested. This tent has never been used. In fact, never unrolled. Check details here: http://www.rei.com/product/77...
