Re: Mt. Wilson via Chantry Flat 5/15/2010
Thanks guys! No, they weren't feeding the bear but I certainly wouldn't be eating under a tree where a bear was camped out! I was also surprised that the mom bear wasn't around. The bugs, on the other hand, were NASTY! From the bench to the top they were really swarming! Not so bad on the way down t...

Mt. Baden-Powell - 11/7/09
Well I hadn't planned on hiking BP today but when I got to Vincent Gap this is what greeted me! :x https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/drhabes.smugmug.com/Backpacking/Day-Hikes/Mt-Baden-Powell-November-2009/Mt-Baden-Powell-November-7/707518290_iEcH9-M.jpg I asked the guy what was going on since I...

Re: Cucamonga Peak & Ghetto Trail Markers 10-24-09
Tim I agree. There is NO trail etiquette on the IHC trail. Too many people going up and down. Do you think this is because the fires have driven everyone over to this area? I too was questioning the white and orange stripes on the rocks and trees. Just another mindless destruction of the forest with...

TacoDelRio, Yes, taken with my favorite camera to date - the Nikon D200. I know it is old now in the Nikon family but it does take great photos! I must admit that I run most of my pictures through Adobe Lightroom which is an amazing way to correct an ordinary photo. Just real fun stuff in the digita...

HikeUp,
I'm pretty sure those are maple trees in most of the pictures. All the yellow leaves seemed to be the same. It was an amazing walk down Ice House after a long day of hiking. Really makes you appreciate one of the four seasons which are unknown to us living in the cities below!

Three Tee's - Ice House Canyon : 10/17/09
I hadn't got out hiking since my trip to Utah in August so I was anxious to get out of L.A. and get back up into the mountains again! My hiking partner for this day was Jimi D. who was turning 19 later in the week. He is a cross country runner at El Camino College in Torrance so I ended up slowing h...

Mt. Harwood, Mt. Baldy & West Baldy - 6/27/2009
Despite not having a hiking partner (Andrew stayed up too late packing his mom's car on her journey to Colorado), I decided to give Mt. Baldy a try today. I had originally wanted to bag 5 peaks on this trip (Harwood, Baldy, West Baldy, Dawson and Pine) but soon felt that this was a little too ambiti...

Throop Peak, Mt. Burnham & Mt. Baden-Powell - 6/6/2009
I hadn't been on a hike since January 1st so I was itching to get out despite the weather conditions. Actually it rained briefly in Torrance when we left at 7am but I thought we would give it a go once we got up into the San Gabriel Mountains. The locked gate at Islip Saddle had FINALLY been opened ...
