Re: Bridge to Nowhere, 22 Nov
there is a fascination with that bridge that exists in the middle of nowhere. everyone should get out there at least once. i hiked it on a day that reached 80+ degrees and enjoyed the water crossings and relaxing at the pools of water just beyond the bridge. wish every hike had a clean pool of water...

On The Hunt With Cougarmagic 11.21.09
Having been fascinated with the videos by Cougarmagic that i became familiar with through this board, I contacted her when she posted the thread about retrieving a camera near Henninger Flats. Saturday i hiked with Cougarmagic (Joanna) and Dave (last name?) into Eaton Canyon to retrieve the camera s...

deja vu, where did u find the big deep caves? missed that! if you hike from the mis-named Boney Mtn summit south to Tri-Peaks follow the trail. you will come to the Swiss Cheese Rock, keep going, eventually you come to the large rock opening to the right of the trail, kind of like a main entrance i...

so sad. i have yet to see the camp but have hiked the canyons near there and they are beautiful. the cabins & structures are pure history and it would be a shame to see this legacy end.

i haven't heard of any recent Cheseboro sightings, but a large male was seen by a Sierra Club group in Sycamore 3-4 weeks ago. in Sycamore i know where they have a trap (to collar) and a camera like you put out to watch the cat traffic. i'll ask my mtn biking friends what they have seen recently and...

Nice bear scat! And that is definitely, 100% a cougar scrape Cool! do you think that the cougar was scraping cuz it smelled us? i should have gone to look where i took a "break" and see if there was any scraping there too. that's twice in a row now where a cougar has been on the trail aft...

Topa Topa Bluffs, Los Padres Nat'l Forest
I took a hike out into my backyard of the Los Padres National Forest to the Topa Topa Bluffs via the Red Reef Trail. The peaks that make up this mountain rise above Upper Ojai and can be seen from the Ventura County shores of the Pacific Ocean. The mountain is layered in bands of red & brown sed...

Re: Taking 5 Newbies to the top of Baldy
i agree that there are way too many people that don't know the first thing about trail etiquette. the first Meetup i did was Baldy via the village. just before i summited there was a group coming down that barreled past me and made me move over to get out of their way. Wrong! btw... they were white,...

Reyes Peak, Los Padres Nat'l Forest 10.26.09
I did a hike yesterday up to Reyes Peak, elevation 7,514 feet, via the Chorro Grande Trail. nice hike, awesome views with 13+ miles and 3,400 feet elevation gain. we saw that a mtn lion had walked the trail after us, as we headed down. would have been cool to see him/her. nice hike if you are ever i...
