Thanks to Johanna, Kirk, Peter and Randy W. for a great romp in Eaton Canyon! :D It was even better than last year as the pools were deeper which allowed us to slide down some of the falls. Wheee!... I gotta admit when i can run, jump and slide like when i was a kid, i really do still feel like a ki...

Beautiful TR Zach. Even more beautiful photos!
Glad the whole tribe had an enchanting time! I love that area of the Sierra with its views, challenging climbs and the spectacular colored rock.

Man, that looks like a frickin blast. I'm sorry I missed out. Question: you basically count on getting completely soaked through, right? I would imagine there is no staying dry no matter what kind of water-proof jacket/pants you had on. serious canyoneers own drysuits. i'll be wearing a wetsuit thi...

TR... black flies bite. next day those bites itch like hell. seriously, how do you make a long, strenuous hike fun? :D share the brutality with 13 other crazed junkies. what started out as a hike with a couple people morphed into a way fun group hike. it was great to see Steve, Fern and Zé...

great photos HikeUp! Saw the cool clouds from Iron Mountain yesterday. There was even a interesting and dense cloud bank to the west as i drove home that created a pretty sunset. i always love seeing Snow Plant too. i really like those little green plants right next to it. nice composition. i have t...

did the hut not provide any shelter from the inside or backside from the wind? to tell you the truth, i didn't even walk up to the hut. i have been there enough times plus i was so cold i tried to find some rocks to break the wind while the guys went and took some pix. last week Burchey said he cou...

Great trip report, must have been a beast with that wind. I think I'm a little confused, but it seems like Norma and Jim kinda left you behind and nobody noticed until you were a mile behind? Whitney MR 5.28.11
We paid attention to the forecast and felt we had a decent window of weather before the storm set to arrive Saturday night would hit. So Phil (lik2hik), Jim (Calicokat) and I left Whitney Portal at 3:30 am for a day hike of the Mountaineer's Route (MR.) :D I had done the MR twice before so I led fro...

Pinnacles Nat'l Monument, CA
i've had a lot of fun climbing in the last year in Joshua Tree, Tahquitz, New Jack, Point Dume, Echo and Red Rocks, but a most surprising and interesting place that i have been to of recent, is Pinnacles National Monument. I'm writing this TR because i want you all to know what a sweet little gem of...

That sucks. Hope they don't get into your sleeping bag(s) too! Seriously, if you're in an apartment building I'd move, telling the landlord the little buggers make the place uninhabitable (check your lease). Pretty useless to treat only your unit if the bugs are in all the units in the buil...

:D Nice photos and backpack, Kathy. Loved the cascades and the Stream Orchid. Back when we drove a 4WD up Surprise Canyon in the 70's i gave little thought to protecting the environment. I have changed a lot since then and it's good to hear that the canyon doesn't bear the scars of the days of yore....

my pix are a bit late, but "worth the wait?" i had fun on this casual day out with Johanna and Bernd. we enjoyed the solitude of a deserted ACH and the remoteness of the creek drainage we explored. it was also nice to get on my old bike once again. a few of my pics from the day: Johanna in...
