Re: Ski Hut, 19 Dec 2009, now I have seen everything

Many Koreans at the Ski Hut. I don't remember seeing so many during past winters. that's interesting. i did Baldy via the Bear Flat Trail from the village yesterday and while up there we noticed the parking lot at Ice House Canyon was nearly empty. last winter when i would hike up IHC it was always...

Re: Taco Thursday at Baldy Bowl 12-17-09

What time did you pass the ski hut on the way down? Did the snow get soft above the ski hut? i can't remember the time? noonish i think. the snow was even getting soft on the bowl on the way up. the blue ice was not. and yes it was mostly soft above the hut. i left my camera in the car, so no pix's...

Awesome photos Elwood! thanks for the TR. it is so "bitchen" to hit Baldy right after a storm and see that splendor. :D Taco, i did a hike in the Sespe yesterday (no TR. repeat of Topa Topa Bluffs with lots of frozen ground.) and came home too tired to get back out again today. look forwar...

South Fork Snowshoe 12.08.09

Dave G was going to post the TR on this, but our day playing hooky has cost him at work and he is working double-digit days to make up for the debauchery. so here is my TR... Being true addicts to hiking/climbing/playing in snow we watched this first storm and knew Wednesday would be the day to get ...

i second what EManBevHills said about B-P being deceptively dangerous.

Dave G and i played hooky today and snowshoed the South Fork up San Gorgonio. pristine! we broke trail. too tired to post pix tonight, but will tomorrow.

Re: San Rafael Peak-Sespe Wilderness

I had a thought about the hawk - are they territorial, and do they fight each other? That could be a possibility too. yep, they are territorial. since the blood was fresh, it had to be a recent kill. birds of prey do not eat the intestines of other animals and i could not find the intestines. not t...

San Rafael Peak-Sespe Wilderness

I went again into the Sespe Wilderness and hiked San Rafael Peak. At 6,666 feet it provided us with views of Baldy, Baden-Powell, Twin Peaks, Mt. Waterman, Wilson and peaks in the closer ranges. It also provided views of the north sides of some of the recent Sespe peaks that i've done. It's always c...

Haddock Mountain, LPNF 11.30.09

Bradley S. and I did a day hike of Haddock Mountain in the Sespe Wilderness of the Los Padres National Forest via Pine Mtn Road. The snow of Friday night and Saturday dropped about 6 inches and made for a beautiful early winter snow hike. Bradley's 2-wheel drive car could not negotiate the icy road ...
