Re: Mt Baldy K9 attempt, 4 July 2009

I was the hiker who introduced myself to you and mentioned that we were both on Cucamonga Peak at he same time last week. It was nice to meet you briefly. Your dog is beautiful. I use to take my dog up there often and He would also lay down and had to be encouraged to proceed. At the time I thought ...

Re: Baldy for Baldy 20090620

It was a beautiful day. Not too hot not to windy. I only recognized Alan and Eric (primarily by how fast they were going) although I must have been passed by many familiar names from these boards. If you look closely there are 19 hikers in this one small part of the trail. My estimate is I must have...

Re: Where do YOU want a Cougarcam?

The rangers at the Mt Baldy Ranger Station said that a cougar had been spotted down the canyon towards Upland last week. Maybe if you asked them they would give you the location. It mght be the cougar is hunting baby sheep. I took this picture thinking there were two sheep and only noticed the lambs...

Re: BALDY - Archive of Mt. Baldy-related Discussions

What is left of the planes is easy to spot and there is a trail leading down to it. That is why they put up the sign, because people were following the wrong trail which eventually leads nowhere.

Re: BALDY - Archive of Mt. Baldy-related Discussions

This photo was taken from above looking down with an 18x Zoom. There is a lot of yellow machinery including a bulldozer. Click on the photo to get a bigger view. I am not sure this is what you saw but, I am pretty sure this is the canyon and right in the green circle, in the photo you posted and I w...

Re: Snow coverage on Mt Baldy

On Saturday there was almost no snow until after the Ski Hut. Beyond the Bowl it was snow and Ice. It has been freezing every night since then and fairly cold during the day.

There was additional snow Sunday and Monday but it looks like much of that melted.

Re: Bighorn sheep - a quest for a photo

Thank you for the compliments on the photos, I understand that nature gets the real credit. I just happened to be there.

For anyone intersted the photos were taken with a Nikon P80 that is available for around $250.00 . It is small, light weight, inexpensive and easy to use.

Bighorn sheep - a quest for a photo

My first sighting was on a trip to Cucamonga Peak in October. I started before sunrise which allowed me to be the first person and consequently the wildlife had not been scared away. The Ram was right on the trail. This was a magnificent beast. In person they look like a medieval mythical creature. ...

Re: Chino Hills State Park

I also hike in Chino Hills SP almost every week...use to anyway. It is easy to see how this burned, with acres and acres of dry brush and the wind. It is really a shame, but I don't see a solution, short of putting in a sprinkler system. This view is of Four Corners. On Saturday Chino Hills Park was...
