Beautiful documentation of a "lost" trail. Great pictures to boot. Thanks for sharing this terrific experience. Are those frogs as tasty as the Mountain Yellow-Legged variety?

Nice footage of our ursine and vulpine neighbors. Was their interest in the boulder coincidental or chemically-assisted?

Re: Baldy - Backbone - 3Ts - Cucamonga - IHS - Ontario
Ms. Magic, I find long day hikes, like this 29-and-change mile beauty to be fulfilling as well as physically demanding. I've discovered through much experimentation that maintaining a comfortable pace, near the upper range of aerobic exertion, is sustainable seemingly indefinitely, provided adequate...

Baldy - Backbone - 3Ts - Cucamonga - IHS - Ontario
Turtle and I decided it was time for casual hike in the Baldy-Cucamonga area so... Early Saturday morning, September 18th, Turtle and I dropped a car at the Icehouse Canyon lot and continued on up to Wanker Flat. We were on the hoof to the Ski Hut Trail around 0425. Temperatures were in the mid-fift...

Buckhorn campground is within the Los Angeles River Ranger District. Their telephone number is listed as (818) 899-1900. You might try calling the Chilao Visitors' Center at (626) 796-5541 for more relevant contact information. The Forest Service office and the Ranger District office are listed as M...

I'm very relieved to know that your and Zach's clear thinking prevailed here. The situation could have ended somewhat worse. It would be interesting to know what other route, technique and/or gear choices might have made this a more pleasant experience.

San Bernardino Divide Trail - 8.95 Peaks
At 0545 Sunday morning, Turtle and I headed up from the Angelus Oaks trailhead after having dropped a car at Vivian Creek. We reached the shuttle car around 1822, twelve hours and thirty-seven minutes later. While I knew we would be attempting to hike through to San Gorgonio Mountain, I was unsure t...

Hey Lilbitmo!
Congratulations on the puppies Jake and the Elwood! I had a pair of namesake cats, though only Elwood remains. It's a real heart breaker to lose one and I can honestly sympathize. I hope to see the three of you on the trail sometime soon.

Re: Icehouse - Cucamonga - Bighorn - Chapman
Gain / loss is around 770 feet in 2,856 feet of trail, or ~ 27% . In terms of exertion it's probably easier to descend. Doing so would probably scar the sandy terrain pretty easily.

Icehouse - Cucamonga - Bighorn - Chapman
Sunday was a beautiful day in and around the Cucamonga Wilderness... I hit the Icehouse Canyon trail early Sunday morning. One gentleman passed me just below the Saddle, and a young lady was trailing through to the summit. I crossed a quiet Icehouse Saddle around 0806. After gawking at a bunch of ne...

This past Saturday (7/31) there were three other hikers on trail in the four-and-change hours of my ascent; 0545 - 1030. There were approximately fifteen as I descended 1140 - 1345. I always forget how much work it is to ascend this trail.

Great snake picture and video. I concur regarding the I.D. : Crotalus Oreganus Helleri. Last time I hiked up Bear Canyon from West Fork was before last year's fire and before the very wet winter. The trail was complete from W.F. to the trailhead near Coldbrook Guard Station (site). My trek also prec...

Deer Canyon - Etiwanda Peak
Whilst Jake Knievel was busy riding his scooter over repurposed ACH signage, I added another chapter to my tome Poor Choices In Summer Hiking. Missing out on a perfectly good early morning descent of Eaton, I drove out to Rancho Cucamonga and parked at the top of Haven Avenue. I started up Deer Cany...

Re: Prairie Fork - Lupine Road (3N39)
Unless there's a more convenient route of which I am unaware, this is the closest road to upper and lower Fish Fork trail camps. Follow 3N06.1 around six miles just past Guffy, turn down 3N39, continue ~ 3 more miles down to Lupine. A foot trail from Lupine follows up past the spring on an abandoned...
