I think I detected the sweet aroma of a NSS (Near Saddles Section) blowing down from the Verdugos this morning.

Manker - North Backbone Segment

Wanting to say a prayer or two for our fallen hiking Sister in situ , I headed over Baldy yesterday and down the North Devil's Backbone trail a ways. Weather was just spectacular; winds mostly calm except for a few cool breezes blowing from the Stockton Flat side over the saddle towards Fish Fork. T...

Re: Baldy Bowl and Ski Hut Trail

Scattered patches past the bowl on the Ski Hut Trail. Summit is mostly clear save for a few patches of refrozen snow. Definitely doable in boots, though a few stretches were much more comfortable with 'pons. I couldn't assess the condition of the Bear Flat trail from my route. https://eispiraten.com...

Re: South Fork Trail 11/27/10

Tracks were on the lower third of the trail in shallow snow. Wasn't paying close attention but I think near gullies below 6621', or 6960' bumps. I am amused by the fact that we coincidentally noted your and Hike Up's boot tracks were discontinued.

Re: South Fork Trail 11/27/10

No way! My daughter and I were on this trail yesterday from 0700 - 1400. Up from S.F. campground to Islip Saddle and back. We saw bear tracks in snow and were quite pleased that these were post general hunting season.

If I recall correctly from the old Angeles Forest website, Idlehour Camp was listed as 'open'. I'm not one for online rants; I feel like I've been transported onto Bizarro World trying to find ANY useful information on the new ANF site. It really blows dogs. The old site may have been a bit outdated...

He only looked in as far as he could see over the barbed wire. At first glance, all this mine's business is down the lined vertical shaft, depth indeterminate. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/www.electricskates.com/Pix/Other10/IMG_5795.JPG https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/www.electricsk...

Pacoima Canyon via Dorothy Canyon

My evil twin brother Jake really wanted to observe and photograph what a year's recovery had accomplished around Iron Mountain #2. As usual, he ended up nearby, but elsewhere. He had planned to walk UP Pacoima Canyon to 3N31, to Indian Ben Saddle, then (little) Iron, or Condor. Much like the ill-fat...

Hey dudes!

When I was through there on 8 August, there were signs all over Buckhorn indicating that it was closing up for rehab immediately following Labor Day weekend. I've seen no contradictory information since.

It's Jody's new austerity plan for the Bernardino N.F. No hikers, no trails to maintain or patrol. I can see the call for air tankers for the Yucaipa ridge crossing her new desk already.

Re: Bighorn Sheep on trailcam, Summer 2010

Spectacular footage, Ms. Magic. If the SGMDF gave out awards (think Emmys. Sheepies? Tacos?) for capturing the spirit of the Gabriel's this would be a sure winner. The segments of the the solo nelsoni are at least as alluring as the group / action shots, though the latter kind of remind me of Turtle...

I'm mortified that the Firesign Theater album cover (yes album, as in vinyl) remeniscent of AlanK's reply is what prevented me from posting the same pictures. I'm guessing that most (many?) SGMDF members are too young to remember "How can you be in two places, etc..."
