Re: Rincon - Cogswell - West Fork Road

I strolled through this camp around two years ago. I don't get the sense that it's used much by anyone. Didn't bother with it on the 5th. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/www.electricskates.com/Pix/Other27/IMG_7399.PNG https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/www.electricskates.com/Pix/Other27/I...

Rincon - Cogswell - West Fork Road

Saturday morning, October 5th I set off on a modest hike to explore the eastern section of 2N24 (Rincon-Red Box Road) that I had previously missed. I parked just outside the gate on San Gabriel Canyon Road and was on the hoof at 0651. The ambiguous closure order on the gate left me a little paranoid...

What about the absurd notion of fixing the broken clusterfuck that is health care delivery in our fine nation, perhaps rendering SOME of this moot.

Sorry I missed you Dude! I Left Manker at 0625, summited around 0918, and was back at the car ~ 1120. My eyes are still burning from seeing the Pomona Speedo kids.

As much as I hate non-responsive replies...

I hiked down this road on the 21st. I think the gate is less of an issue than the washout around 0.5 mile short of Lupine C.G.

Good Luck

I've been on the Allison Mine trail many times and though it's crappy in places, It was never as bad as your report indicates. Either it's gotten worse, or you may have managed to wander off of it. Have a gander at https://eispiraten.com/a ... ht=allison and see if our track from the Heaton / Iron M...

Re: Little Rock Creek - Winston Ridge - PCT

Hey HikeUp! I was scoping that route out on my way up. It would be great because it meets the main ridge much closer to the unburned (Station Fire) eastern end. Getting to it requires some ascent/descent of the proceeding buttress in order to bypass the little tree-choked streambed. I was also conce...

Little Rock Creek - Winston Ridge - PCT

I knew that I was going to get up at 0400 and go hike somewhere in the San Gabriels on Saturday; I just couldn't decide where this was going to be. Late Friday night it dawned on me to go see if I could find the camera that I lost when descending the middle section of Little Rock Creek with Turtle o...

Re: What bird is this?

You pose a rather interesting question Mr. Greg. Are the Towhees always spotted when they're spotted? Perhaps their coloration is sex, season or age affected. Thus they may not be spotted when spotted.

Trail Canyon - 1/5/2013

I was looking for a hike to do two Saturdays ago, where I could enjoy some beautiful scenery, rack up some miles, and not hassle too much with snow and ice. I realized that I hadn't been up a local favorite, Trail Canyon since before the August 2009 fire. I arrived at the gate on Big Tujunga Canyon ...

Re: Heaton Flat - Iron Mountain

Thanks for the nice comments lilbitmo! I was trying really hard to assess the condition of the trail to Rattlesnake, and beyond to Hawkins'. I wouldn't want have to rely on my observation too rigorously. Most of what I saw looked singed. Much of the adjacent flora was still late, dry, autumn green. ...

Heaton Flat - Iron Mountain

Saturday morning I drove up San Gabriel Canyon, across the East Fork Road and parked at Heaton Flat. I was on the hoof by 0630. It took around 5:30 to summit. I'll add some more verbiage to this report later. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/www.electricskates.com/Pix/Other24/IMG_0887.png Morn...

Re: Cucamonga Peak from San Sevaine Rd 101010

I hiked this trail three weeks ago, and several time in the past few years. I have plenty of pictures that I'll post, but not today. A few sections of this trail are quite dangerous; high traverses on steep scree, where the trail has slid out. Bonus: I've seldom failed to see Ovis canadensis nelsoni...

For your consideration, from three weeks ago.

Perhaps we overdo Baldy a bit, but here's Baldy and some T's from the trail between Cucamonga and Etiwanda:

Winston Ridge - Middle Little Rock Creek

0400 Saturday morning I met the good Dr. Turtle along SR 2 in La Canada- Flintridge. We drove the Jeep to the closed gate on 5N04.4 near Pinon Flats / Sulphur Springs. We were on the hoof at 0500 headed towards the western toe of Winston Ridge. Turtle and I had scouted the route from satellite image...

Think I'm looking at Pleasant View Ridge, Will Thrall Peak, Burkhart Saddle, Pallett Mountain (Continuation of Pleasant View Ridge), possibly Western ridge of Williamson, with Akawie in the midground.
