why not some sort of orienteering. drop edenooch into the wilderness somewhere with a tracking device, give participants limited information on his whereabouts (with hourly updates). first to get to him and throw a pie in his face wins

I don't recall. There might have been a few artifacts but no biggies. I'll have to ask Winston, he might remember. It was about halfway between the cabin ruins and the big mine opening.

http://socalhikes.com/2010/05/east-fork ... mine-loop/ That was the easy way? Good job, guys. Excellent. I've been to the S-M before but I've never seen the equipment and such that you two found. I found two shafts when I was there and a lot of stone cabin foundations and stone chimneys, bu...

Re: East Fork to Eagle Mine (and a little BHR trail exploration)
Boy you guys are committed! Good find though, thats a rare sight indeed. Ze, you will have to research those flies for your science blog and see what can be done about it. Thats one of the reasons I get real picky about local spots....do not bring food *arrgh*. I know this doesnt apply in this case...

Re: East Fork to Eagle Mine (and a little BHR trail exploration)
So, when are you going to finish the job, you "slacker?" (exploring the old BHR trail) I would be lying if I said I didn't want to try to finish the entire "highline" trail. I don't know why really. those brush hikes really have to be spread out though or else you go craz...

Re: East Fork to Eagle Mine (and a little BHR trail exploration)
Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe. I don't know if anyone else appreciates what you just did, but I do. I've gone after some of those old mines including the Allison, Baldora, and Stanley-Miller. I never in my wildest dreams thought about attempting the Gold Dollar or Eagle. Just finding them would...

Re: East Fork to Eagle Mine (and a little BHR trail exploration)
thanks. sucks about Iron. it got pretty hot I would imagine not the optimal weather to hike it! the trails hits Coldwater canyon north of Widman Ranch (private property). You'll have no problem accessing the mines (north). However you don't want to start walking south, but even if you do I believe y...

Re: Mt. Baldy + 3 Ts 5/22
ha, that's my list i think.
that's a good trail, but not the one I'm talking about. I'm talking about this one
actually on that trip we hiked up the long way, and down the short way and hitchhiked down. normally you would just go up and down the long way.

Re: Mt. Baldy + 3 Ts 5/22
how hard do you want? I think 2 ones that would help would be 1) Old Mt Wilson trail to Mt Wilson, ~ 15 miles 4700 ft gain 2) Iron Mt, 15 miles, 7200 ft elevation gain Baldy from Baldy Village (~ 13 miles, 5800 ft gain) would be a great one but depends on the snow coverage on the upper parts. At lea...

god damn philosophers! if one's definition of "nature" is all that isn't man-made, then our mere presence in nature would tarnish it...we'll always leave something but its a matter of what level we feel comfortable in accepting. i draw the line at allowing Taco into nature with his w...
