How about any of the falls in your favorite place, Fish Fork? Upper portion would be above 5000 to 70...

Re: Baldy Endurance Test
What Alan said. You should bike from your place to Manker, then hike up. It would be done in a day, even if it's your first time and therefore, your slowest time (if you do it several times). I tried to do this on-foot in 2003 when I was unfamiliar with Baldy. My route had me go up to Sunset Truck ...

Re: The Station Fire Thread
wasn't there a similar size fire in like 1916 (or 1918) call the "great fire"? thought I read about in it The San Gabriels.
that was a popular hiking time...I wonder if they 'closed off' the forest then...

Re: The Station Fire Thread
these people can't upload a proper closure map, how could I expect them to properly regulate a forest? (yes I'm on that point again :P ) all I know is, if I show up to a spot that doesn't say anything about that part being closed, I will take a route and continue as long as I don't see anything sayi...

Re: Stockton Flat - Baldy Notch - Better Route?
you so smart Jim :) but I was thinking counterclockwise. not sure best way to get up Gobbler's knob, but there are some options. don't need to take this ridge route, just trying to cut miles. maybe just take the use trail under ski lift, then hike up to Taco's ridge and down. my motto "less mil...

We know a guy with a cabin just north of Widman Ranch. By the way, in your post you mention Hugh's site being down -...
