Re: Triplet Rocks

My friend Henry, who went on this hike with me, successfully made the summit this time with a friend this past weekend. I don't think he posts on this forum, so just a FYI. It took them 23 hours  . Their register entry is the only one since the hiker who was on the ridge for 4 days. https://e...

Speak for yourself dood. Im a housekeeper. Im runnin around all day, carrying sheets n towels (Huge 10-25lb stacks of em) up n down stairs at the hotel all day, and clean 10-14 rooms a day. I NEVER get to sit down, we dont even get a lunch-break. Then, after 6-8 hrs of that, I walk home, change int...

Re: "Wildnerness Strength Training and Conditioning"

Just put on a pack and get out there. Don't get caught in all the protein/carbo/fat nonsense. One simple rule to follow is that the body becomes good at doing what it is told to do, over and over again --- Whether you like it or not, you will become good at doing what you do most often. If you look...

yeah that ridge is steep. I remember hiking it some time after the fire that hit it and had to use my hands in some parts...ended up with black charcoal stains all over my hands, face, and shorts!

Re: Running Miles

damn Zach, that's a lot of running! good luck in the marathon, got a time you are shooting for? be careful with overtraining. make sure you have at least a few days off per week so your tendons can recover from the pounding. I think you can progress nicely without having to do 9 miles each time, plu...

I really enjoy the middle-high backcountry off the ACH. Waterman/Twin Peaks, Pleasant View Ridge, and Winston Peak/Ridge are some of my favorite places.

Re: New Age Record:

http://www-fars.nhtsa.dot.gov/Main/index.aspx It seems the rate is about 1.14 deaths per 100 million miles driven. So if you drive 1 million miles over your lifetime, you have about a 1 % chance of a fatal accident. The stats for Everest fatalities seem to vary, from 2 - 10%. Of course, that doesn'...

Re: New Age Record:

the likelyhood of severe injury on a trip up Everest is higher than the likelyhood of severe injury on a trip in your car. vs lifetime of driving? good question. I'd say if the kid has not been informed of the inherent risks, then it's irresponsible. And at that age, can he fully understand the risk...

From Asuza to Crystal Lake = 37 mins. 4.4 closed part of 39 = ??? From Islp Saddle to Wrightwood = 25 mins. How is ope...

Wild "creatures" of the San G's

While not as flashy as a mountain lion, these creatures are unique to the San Gabriels and also hard to catch on camera. They howl and bark loudly, but in reality have very little bite. Once thought to be on the verge of extinction, they have been showing up on the trail more frequently in the dayli...

I went down Dark canyon a few years ago, but that was pre-Station Fire. The use trail was steep and a little loose in places, but doable. Post fire? No clue.

50/ 50 First half down to ~ 6500 on north side, then on south side to final ascent.

Definitely less than 4.5 hrs, quite likely less than 4. Doing 3 hrs to tram is pretty good, but based on my pr's I'm sure someone has done 2:30 or less.
