Re: General Conditions
Thanks for the intel Sean. Regarding PCT closure, I plan on:
1. Either following PVR east to Mt Williamson and on to Islip saddle. (Is this a viable option?) or:
2. Following the Burkhart trail to the PCT.
Where is the PCT closure exactly?
Thanks again!

Re: General Conditions
Thanks Hike up. Forgot about the frog closure. My intended route hopefully is outside that boundary. I was hoping to make the 3 days more uniform in distance for my hiking buddies who tend to complain on longer days. Sounds like I would need to bring adequate water up from Burkhart trail (Cruthers c...

Re: General Conditions
Hello, Planning a trip from the Devils punchbowl to Vincent Gap via the Burkhart trail via Islip saddle, to Baden Powell and ending at Vincent Gap as stated. My plan is for a three day two night trip. Anyone know of a good campsite just beyond Burkhart saddle? Wondering about trail conditions water ...

Re: Horseshoe Meadow to Mt Langley
Yes. The trip was great! We picked up our permit in Lone Pine and set out of Horshoe Meadow on 9/16 camping between Cottonwood lakes 4 and 5. We acclimated for a day, and took a day trip to Langley on 9/18. The weather was awesome, and the fishing was pretty good too. I think in retrospect, the camp...

Re: Mountain Lion Hunter May be Removed from Post
I am not a hunter, however I support the right of those who do in a responsible way. What evidence would be sufficient to determine that there was a negative impact on deer, elk or other creatures to allow hunting of predators such as mountain lion. This is the the department of fish and GAME after ...

Horseshoe Meadow to Mt Langley
Hey there. Was wondering if someone had intel regarding Old Army Pass. I am planning an over-nighter from Horseshoe Meadow to Mt Langley. I realize I could use New Army Pass, but I was hoping to do a little fishing as well.
Much thanks in advance!

Re: Lupine Camp to Cabin Flat 6/16/11
Great report Cougar! Some friends and I completed a through hike to Wrightwood from East fork through that section you mentioned a couple of years ago. We were'nt able to find an actual trail and so we bush-wacked and log hopped our way through until we reached the cabin flat area. That would be a g...

Re: Gov't Shutdown?
Now, for every day that the government shuts down, I shouldn't have to pay taxes. I mean they can't tax me to support a government that isn't in operation, yes? So, let's all withhold that percentage of our taxes proportional to the number of days they shut down. Oh, and congressmen would naturally...

Re: The Station Fire Thread
As far as not wanting to maintain the campgrounds and trails, I'm sorry but that's just plain ignorant. Have you been up there this past year to see how much money and time they are putting into rebuilding/upgrading everything? (and yes, you can get to all of those places). Lower Charlton Flat is g...

Re: The Station Fire Thread
That's all nice and good and I wish it were that way too, but you both know as well as I do, that's not how it works. It's public land, yes, but is also required by and administered by the federal govt. They mostly create and maintain the trails, campgrounds, infrastructure etc, and are therefore u...

Re: The Station Fire Thread
I don't know why the government should carry any liability for us in the forest. Nor why they should limit our access for any reason. It is public land and if a person chooses to risk his life that should be his right as a citizen to do so. IMHO 8)

Bill, Look, I'm really sorry. Some people. HJ Fortunately, it melts quickly this time of year. Really, you all have me to thank for this phenomenal snow year. Since I sold the snow blower at the yard sale a couple years ago seems like we are getting some pretty decent snow. We've been doing ...

Re: Vicent Gap to East Fork
Ok, so I am looking to do the trip in the John Robinson book from Vincent Gap to East Fork (or reverse) in late May/early June. I believe that the book says around 16-18 miles one way with a long car shuttle. Hoping to do a 1 nighter based on time constraints. Is this feasible to comfortably do thi...
