Re: Cabin Flat overnight loop from Vincent Gap - trip report and photos
Nice! We did this trip in reverse last year with our Scouts, Blue Ridge-Fish Fork-Jackson Flat. Photo links seem to be broken. Edit: Links fixed in new reply. The wilderness sign is basically where they moved the "trail" head after abandoning the jeep trail. When you're walking into Cabin ...

Entrance to chute 0442121E 3789249N Facing chute, branch on hikers left I think we were supposed to veer right where another drainage comes in around 6400' at what looks like a dryfall. That would have avoided the crap from 6600' up. The rockfall was crazy. Basketball size stuff bouncing off the wal...

Unless I know you, I guess that was a little Google-fu on your part.
Big enough for 2 people to sit toboggan style, slightly hunched over. More than likely covered by debris.

Re: Upper Cucamonga Canyon exploration - trip report and photos
Went down Cucamonga from the saddle back in '87. Stopped by the falls and a snowstorm. Ended up leaving by helicopter. Been wanting to go back and see if I can find the place my friend and I took shelter.

Falling Rock->Sugarloaf-> Ontario
First hike since January. Kicked my ass.
Instead of taking the talus field up to the saddle, we left Falling Rock at this chute
the upper part of which has absolutely zero solid rock. It all breaks loose.
Other than that, same-same.

Blue Ridge to Jackson Flats via Fish Fork.
6 Scouts, 3 adults. Made quite a few changes along the way from our planned itinerary, but we gave the scouts one to remember. Day 1: Blue Ridge CG to Guffy CG. Get the legs warmed up, sort out any equipment issues. No water at spring. Day 2: Guffy CG to Lupine CG. Filtered water from Prairie Fork @...

Seeing as how we only ran into 2 people between Guffy and Vincent Gap, I would assume that we met you on Pine Ridge. We were the group of Scouts heading from Little Fish Fork to Mine Gulch.

Re: Nearest water to Lupine?
Probably too late to be of use, but as of 7/28, the spring between Guffy and Lupine was flowing across the road in the morning, Prairie Fork was flowing at the water crossing, and as mentioned before, the spring above Lupine. Just to round things out: Little Fish Fork Camp 1, morning only Little Fis...

Re: Water still running at Mt Lowe camp?
Has anyone been up recently? Wondering if there is any water after the recent rains, or if it needs to be hauled in.
Thanks.
Edit: According to the Ranger, there is water.
Edit #2: Plenty of water flowing into the cistern @ the trail camp as of 3/15.

Nice. Did you see the graffiti on Telescope? The camp pic is the only link that pointed to a file to use the ", without the quote marks, to make them inline images. On this forum you click Img once to open the tag, and then again after you have typed in the link to close it. Or just manually ty...

The link is for the bill creating the San Gabriel Mountains NRA. I don't believe that applies here. Where is the bill for the SGM National Monument? Can't find a map for the 350k+ acres that will become the NM... Presidential decree, no bill, no congress, nada. Maps? Guess we'll get an idea tomorro...

Re: Obama to designate chunk of San Gabriel Mountains a national
The recreation act was the original proposal, but it has died in congress every time time it was brought up. Since Chu couldn't get that through, she changed direction and demanded the NM designation to bypass Congress, and apparently is going to get it. When people complain about the lack of info, ...

Etiwanda Canyon to Cucamonga/San Sevaine Truck Trail
Has anybody continued up the road in Etiwanda Canyon to the truck trail in last couple of years? It's been almost 30 years since the last time I was up it, so I'm sure it's quite a bit rougher. I don't see any major slides along it on GE, but the brush looks a little Taco-esque in places. Just wonde...

Re: San Sevaine Road (1N34)
Doable? Yes. @Icehouse you can go down the Middle Fork Trail. Quite a hump back to Nealeys Corner. Another option would be to take the Cucamonga Peak trail all the way to Joe Elliot which puts you back on the truck trail. Water is the biggest issue. Middle Fork gives you more options on the return, ...

Re: Adventure Pass
Depending on your usage, the Interagency annual pass @ $80 may be a better deal than the Adventure Pass. For us, one pass beats having an Adventure Pass, a Death Valley Annual Pass, entry to Yosemite, and other day various day use fees. Some places offered a small discount to pass holders for campin...

Re: Cucamonga Truck Trail from Lytle - trail washed out?
Campground is Joe Elliot. The road has been closed for quite some time due to washout/rock slide @ Cascade Canyon. The gate @ Sappire is also closed restricting access. Back in the 80s we used to ride from Sapphire to Lytle Creek and then back along the power lines. You could also head the other dir...

I don't think that someone else is of Robinson's caliber as an author, and the book has suffered some. HJ Have not read any of the new additions, so no comment on the writing. Re: Stoddard, Frankish, Spring Hill
Nice hike!
A few years back, the miners trail was still passable on Spring. Truck and some other stuff laying around, from the old tree plantation I assume.
The truck trail is a joke. Nothing like the 80s when we used to drive up and park and then head off to camp/hike all along its length.

Re: Entry and parking fees
You can use the Interagency Pass in lieu of the Adventure Pass. It's a much better deal since the one pass is valid for entry to National Forests/Parks/etc. It also has some added discounts depending on the facility, if it's a Golden Eagle pass etc. There is no record of the purchaser of the pass, e...
