So, how do you post a video?

I've figured out how to post pics but was clueless as to how to post a Youtube Video. I searched for "how do you post a video?" but came up with nothing except videos that everyone else seems to easily know how to post! Crimony! Will the embedded video show up in preview? I tried a number ...

Switzer's/Cascades 7.10.11

Made it down to Switzer's and the cascades for the first time since the Station Fire on Sunday. The gate was closed at ACH as they had just re-paved the road and parking lot the day before (made for a nice hot slog on the way back out) which kept most of the diaper crowd away. There are new outhouse...

Road to Switzer's open yet?

Was curious as to whether or not the road down to the picnic area was open. Was planning on hiking down there tomorrow.

I'm guessing the flagging is from the trail crews. I saw a lot on the Red Box to West Fork hike last weekend and a lot of it had writing on it pertaining to brush clearance, etc..

Driving back down from Red Box on Sunday I noticed a bunch of cars parked on ACH by the gate. Had to check the map again when I got home to realize that this area is now open!

Thank you for the awesome pics. Really did my heart well.

Red Box to West Fork Campground 06.05.11

(No pics, since all I had with me was my crapberry and I would just have to explain what the picture was anyway.) Went on a splendid hike down to West Fork CG on Sunday. We (my wife Robbin & I and our two canine hiking buddies, Maggie and Ozzy) left Burbank a little after 9am and enjoyed a nice ...

Re: Camping Memorial day weekend

I'm thinking Buckhorn may still be closed for renovation.

Personally, unless I'm in the mood for unruly crowds, loud music until 2 in the morning, dirty diapers and trashed facilities I avoid camping on Memorial weekend. Now the Strawberry Music Festival is a different story...

Re: Golden Trout Wilderness/Cottonwood lakes

Anyone have some good trout recipes :D Towards the tail end of a nice weeklong sojourn in the Three Island Lake area of the Sierra several years ago, my buddies and I happened to catch a bunch of Golden Trout. Seeing as we were near the end of our trip, these fish were going to be dinner, but, as t...

I was looking at this map http://maps.fs.fed.us/stationfire/ that Ze posted a link to in another thread and it looks to me as if a lot of areas have opened up! For instance, it looks as if the Gabrieleno Trail from Camp Sturtevant is now open to Red Box! Also the Rim Trail, Devore Trail and Valley F...

Re: BackPacking with a dog

So, did you have your dogs vaccinated for both the Mojave and the Pacific rattlesnake? May I ask where and how much? I don't know if there are 2-different vaccines. All I know is that they received "Rattlesnake" vaccinations. That would be a good question to ask the vet. They got their la...

Re: BackPacking with a dog

The mere mention of the word "hike" sends my dogs into a tizzy! I've taken every dog I've ever had hiking. I had one ditch his pack on a high sierra trip. I had to backtrack about a half mile to retrieve it. Had another pup who fell off the trail above the Kings River into the biggest patc...

Hi, I'm Rob. My screen name is an old air name from my days as a radio DJ. It's my original Yahoo moniker, hence the phonetic spelling since Robnoxious was already taken. Despite the sound of it, I really am a nice guy. I have a toehold into my 6th decade. My grandmother started me on my love of hik...

There is probably more water flowing through both than there's been in years. We did the Winter Creek loop a couple of weeks ago and the water was really flowing through there. Water running over the trail in a place or two. A couple members of our group found some of the crossings quite challenging...

If you're heading up to Chantry on the weekend, be sure to leave extra early! The parking lot fills up before 8am most weekends. You will need and Adventure Pass too, or you can pay to park in the pack station's lot. www.bigsantaanitacanyon.com has a lot of info you might find interesting. You and y...

Beautiful, crisp day in Big Santa Anita. My wife Robbin and I arrived with our two canine hiking units, Maggie and Ozzy, atabout 8am to a nearly empty parking lot. Our original plan was to head to Spruce Grove then Mt Zion and back via Winter Creek. About halfway to Spruce Grove we encountered a cou...

Sounds like a great way to while away a Thursday! Regarding your bee encounter, I would highly recommend carrying the homeopathic remedy "Apis" in your first aid kit. Especially if you are alergic to bees. I'm not alergic, but my wife is hyper-alergic and this has saved her a couple of tim...

Of course you won't be that far from the Ventana Wilderness in the northern most reaches of the Los Padres NF. There are some excellent hiking/backpacking opportunities there. Simply gorgeous.

You can pick up a trail map at the ranger station. The station is over by where the bike rentals are, near the carousel.

2 lions! Very cool. We live on the ther side of the Verdugos and hike up there a lot. Has anyone been to Deep Creek Hot Springs lately? I haven't been in years. I mean a LOT of years! From what I can tell, you can still park at Bowen Ranch and hike down. I was thinking of hiking up Ice House Canyon for the first time this Sunday and I have a few questions. I've read that you need a wilderness permit. What is the best way to obtain one? We rolled out the thermarest pads at the big turnout right by the 6000' elevation sign on Angeles Crest last night. Great Show! We saw one BIG meteor pass over head that was like a firework!

It was my wife and 14-year-old daughters first meteor shower and they both dug it.

You WILLneed your adventure pass and as was stated previously, get there early. I did the Mt Wilson from Chantry hike on Sunday and I got the very last parking space at 7:45am. Right across from the trailhead no less!

It's a great hike. You will enjoy it.
