Re: 2017-02-04 Fatality near Islip Saddle - wtf happened?
You guys are SOOOOO right. I had a bad accident in this very spot back in May, 2003. HikeUp, the slope looked exactly like it looks in your picture. Even though I did not have micro spikes, crampons, an ice axe or any other means of self arrest, I continued on. Just STUPID. When the inevitable slip ...

Re: SR-39 (San Gabriel Canyon Road)
Typical. I should probably place a warning here that "this post will be an emotional venting of frustrations" but, what is going on with the USFS????? I'm sure that there are some important things that they are doing behind the scenes that I am not aware of but, other than clearing some fa...

At 14,115 feet elevation, there is some seriou...

Re: Hikers body recovered from Mt Wilson
Augie: My fall happened on Mt. Islip. I was taking the PCT from Islip saddle up to Windy Gap. I slipped off of the trail and slid down one of the chutes coming off of that mountain. My fall stopped about 40 feet from the Angeles Crest Highway below. I am sure that most readers of this board have tak...

Re: Hikers body recovered from Mt Wilson
This is so sad. Back in May of 2003 I slipped on ice in the San Gabriels and slid/bounced/somersaulted down an icy slope. I lost nearly 700 feet of altitude before finally stopping in the canyon below. I thought long and hard before posting this but I finally decided to do so for two very different ...
