Re: Ross Mountain and Alder Gulch

I am pretty sure only the USAF operated the F100 series The pilot ejected , The only thing I know about the post crash is a helicopter crashed below Vincent Gulch Divide (Gap) nearish the sailplane wreck, there may well have been fatalities there. I'm only guessing but don't feel any effort would ha...

Re: Finding Tunnel #5 In Las Flores Canyon

I've hiked up that canyon without ropes. The big waterfall at the bottom is the main obstacle, and you can get around it with a heavy bushwhacky bypass on the right. My only experience with the Saucer Branch is 2 canyoneering descents . there is a plane wreck in there too! Nordyn Norseman, May 13, ...

Re: Plane Parts Above Gold Creek

Kristen Yeah I've been wreck chaseing for years after I stumbled across the stone canyon BT-13 and caught the bug The other wreck on Yerba Buena is a F-86 on the very steep big tujunga side sadly it was salvaged so there isn't much there. There was a big wing section a few years ago and some scatter...

Re: saucer branch. I might have a photo but yeah a few feet is my memory. If I recall correctly there is a rock drill bit stuck in the rock much further down canyon . How'd you would get to it without canyoneering gear or safely exit / return the way you came requires careful consideration . Keep Hu...

the local wrecks I have looked for : 12/24/1944 "Mt Gleason" B-24 liberator in fall creek. I did find some small bits scattered down the creek. There is 2 other wrecks associated with this site 1 BT-13 crashed while observing the recovery of the crew and a much later beechcraft? that crash...

Re: Plane Parts Above Gold Creek

Inspection stamps. To the best of my knowledge they would only be used on a north American aviation aircraft. At least for me the orientation of the armor plate to the engine indicates a single engine aircraft. I found a fuel tank access and a piece quite a distance from the site as I returned XC to...

Re: Plane Parts Above Gold Creek

Went up there this am. It's definitely NAA got excited when I thought I found a serial number, but alas it wasn't to be . I certainly agree it's almost certainly the F51 from 1949. Especially given the widespread debris field. The armor plate is cool, while the heel from the shoe is a reminder of th...

Re: Plane Parts Above Gold Creek

I'm going up there early tomorrow. If it's a p38 there are 2 engines. The P38 was made by Lockheed . The P51 was north American aviation, part numbers and inspection stamps will help sort it out. A serial number would be awesome. Later NAA mfg aircraft had the planes serial number on everything. Tha...

As I now recall Pat Macha told me about a supposed P-38 wreck site in Gold Canyon / Little Tujunga area. Re: Plane Parts Above Gold Creek

It would be nice to visit the site and scan with a metal detector and try to find a serial number or something.... There are some other wreck sites in the area that are unlocated and there are always unknown sites. The map you show doesn't seem to correspond with the debris pattern diagram in the AA...
