Prolly depends on your knees!

I for one like to ascend the steep sh*& and descend the trail. When I was over that way not too long ago it looked better to ascend IMO

San Bernardino Peaks 2010/08/21

Trip data at Everytrail.com This is my final conditioning hike for my pending PCT backpack from Onion Valley to Devils Postpile NM (Reds Meadow) I'd hiked to San Bernardino Peak last year on 7/11 so I was aware of the trail and conditions. My friend Bernd was able to make this trip, I was intereste...

Re: What Do You Think of San Gabriel Mountains Forever?

Do you guys have other suggestions for improving the SGMs? I suspect the reason it isn't adopted more widely in the San Gabriels is bureaucratic inertia as well as civil service abhorrence of volunteers A prime example is the plans to get contractors to fix trails damaged in the Station Fire. (most...

Re: What Do You Think of San Gabriel Mountains Forever?

I think there is plenty of "wilderness" in the san gabriels. This IMO is a ploy for politicians to hang their hat on some 'GREEN' thing with no concern for what actual users want or need. I voted "Not convinced yet" before I had the option "No" I've been opposed to this...

They might have to get a special use permit though.

Re: We Need your opinions for our store

I'm always interested in other options Like Taco sez seems many large chain stores are limiting their stock and selection of climbing gear. There are NO canyoneering gear specific options here. I for one have to buy a pair of 5.10 Canyoneers but really want to try them on this time to ensure a good ...

Re: Cucamonga Peak Sunday 8/8/2010

Starting at IceHouse and going out over San Sevaine would be quite a hike. Dropping down the Middle Fork of Lytle Creek (Lytle I believe, not Lytel, yes?) would be quite a bit easier I would think. Of course easier isn't always what we want. D'OH! Lytle it is but I'm a world class misspeller ...

Mt San Jacinto via Marion Mtn Trail The main reason for this hike is conditioning for a backpack trip in 2 weeks But I don't need much of an excuse to get out on the trail! I've looked at it and if I didn't already have a new flip video I'd have bought one

I have an olympus stylus tough 6000 not a super optical instrument but I've found the water resistant feature bomber (your results may vary)

And it takes a good enough picture for what I want it for.

I believe you're gonna need a rope. old maps show a trail to the falls, i forget if the trail goes above the falls or to the base of the falls i hesitate to call the trail a trail as it is probably more of a line on a map than a trail I have never been in there but have looked into going down there,...

Updated! Matt, the Houdini kit idea came from winter mountaineering, when I'm travelling alone and have been in situations where it comes in handy (self-rescue, severe weather, etc). I nearly died in North Fork of Santa Anita Canyon and vowed never to put myself or anyone else in such a situation e...

Looks like a fracture on the "fourth metacarpal" too. Second (worthless) opinion: from this one view the 4th metacarpal looks new. Not sure about the proximal phalanx. Need more views... Guess I should of said the 4th metacarpal was the first & diagnosed fracture... not that you need ...
