The Sturdevant Tr really has no water either though there is treatable water in Santa Anita Creek There is NO water that is safe to ...

Re: Rattlesnakes
can't say the are many credible resources I personally prefer using hiking pole and have found them handy to keep snakes at bay. I d say for every snake you see you have probably walked by a 100 you didn't see. This is a recent rattlesnake encounter I had https://www.facebook.com/matt.maxon.16/ ... ...

Kahtoola doesn't recommend Microspike for anything but good trails. My guess from the chart Baldy Bowl would require K•10 crampons

They can however pull off if you're side hilling in steep terrain.HJ I agree with Jim on this. The take away from this and the plethora of incidents is the san gabriels can be dangerous in winter. Snow - melt - freeze - melt - freeze - melt on and on covered with snow makes for very dangerous ice c...

I am guessing this is an old time pit toilet? Not sure the sign is accurate... The gist is probably so... It would be nice if people will comply with the backcountry disposal recommendations but I don't see it happening. I'd be interested to see if a there is a fecal coliform bacteria spike in Santa...

Yeah unfortunately my head is writing checks my body can't cash
But Ron seems determined to do the trip
Maybe I can do some sort of support role![Sad :-(](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)
The upper part seems to have an abrupt change in flora with Firs and Pines so who knows

Redrock Cyn to falls labeled on the map
Was out scouting for possible canyoneering routes and had looked at Redrock Mtn area as a possible untapped resource over the years. I coaxed someone to go with me the date set we headed out Thursday 12/29 Bernd and I had hiked out Castaic Creek 5/24/2014 to where the Redrock Trail leaves the old ro...
