Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

Bobcat Fire closure order set to expire April 1.

Anybody hear that the FS intends to extend it further? Being the good, law-abiding citizen that I am, I want to make sure I don't violate the order. That would cause me terrible distress.

Hmm. Seems his remains were found near the Panorama Loop trail. But his car was originally found at the Juniper Flats trailhead. That's quite a distance away.

I suppose this can be characterized as a cairn. On the summit of Pine in 2013.

24 hours and a room at the Alpine Tavern just to climb San G. Man, you really had to be dedicated to hike back in them days.

I usually wear mid-cut Merrell Moab 2s. They are reasonably-priced and durable enough I suppose. I've had Oboz and Keen boots before which are super comfy but their durability is shite.

Here's a pic from the Pickens Spur water tank looking east toward the Markham saddle.

What is that peak sitting in the middle of the saddle? Peak 4583?

Re: Zuma Canyon Loop

Do you have a sense of whether this had more shade, but it all burned down semi-recently? Or is this just how it is? I know this area burned in the Woolsey Fire (2018), but I believe it was mainly coastal sage scrub and grass before then, so my sense is this is just how it is. There are some big Sy...

Zuma Canyon Loop

It's been awhile since I posted a TR. On Sunday, I decided I needed to get back into the swing of things, but didn't want to go inland because of the heat. So I headed for the coast where I thought it would be a bit cooler. It was, but not by much. I wanted something longer so I settled on the Zuma ...

Last weekend, me, my kids, and a couple of friends were fortunate to spend a couple of days/nights in Yosemite. We originally had planned to do a section of the Tahoe Rim Trail, but then the Caldor Fire ruined that plan. Our back-up was Jennie Lakes, but the KNP Complex fire torpedoed that option. O...

Several web sites suggest grizzlies are occasionally spotted
I didn't realize that there were grizzlies in Colorado.
