Book: The Southern Sierras of California by Charles Francis Saunders

Referenced in Robinson's San Gabriels, I have been reading the The Southern Sierras of California by Charles Francis Saunders. Published in 1923, it provides a first-hand account of meandering through many of our favorite ranges during the golden era of hiking a hundred years ago. I'm only a couple ...

Re: Alder Creek Trail to Chilao

Haha, if someone manages to spot that bike speeding along Upper Big Tujunga, finds a place to stop remotely nearby, risk it along racing vehicles with no shoulder, and break the ulock on crumbling dg, they've probably earned it! After having a sequence of expensive bikes stolen, I bought this beater ...

Alder Creek Trail to Chilao

I parked at Chilao day use and rode my bicycle down to Alder Creek Edison Gate (it looks like the gate didn't exist when street view collected the imagery in 2009). I was surprised to se a pair of forestry trucks about a mile in where the trail departs the Edison road.

It's a slippery descent down ...

Re: Magic Mountain from the North

This is annoying: While looking at the street view on approach to Capra Rd (east route up), it looks like a guard house was erected just last year . Recent reviews indicate they block access to the canyon, but reddit suggests walking along the creek from a mile west.

The west route is a National ...

Re: Magic Mountain from the North

Thanks! I've had one bad experience where I wanted to make a loop through Oat Mountain and got stopped four miles away from the car, and instead had to turn around and backtrack eight miles. I've encountered some aggressive signage and fences around Newhall and Santa Clarita, and given the distance ...

Magic Mountain from the North

I've been researching how to hike Magic Mountain as a loop and am looking at a route from the north beginning in Lang:

I have not found names for these trails. Google calls the 10 mi road on the west side of Pole Canyon "Magic Mountain Truck Trail", and the bottom of the trail on east ...

Trail names around waterman

I hiked to Twin Peaks from Three Points today, looping back through Waterman descending down onto the PCT. I'd like to be more specific with trail names, but as far as I can tell, they don't have any?

It seems strange these trails would be nameless because they're ...

Delete account?

Assuming it's impossible to change my username, I was looking for a way to delete my account so I could recreate it with the username I wanted. However, it doesn't appear that's possible either. Is it best just to create a new account and abandon my current one?
