Re: Baldy Ski Hut

The three young ladies did fine. Only one wanted to continue past the hut so Bryan and I took her up the south bowl which still has some coverage but is melting fast. The snow is a mix of slush on the surface about three inches deep, with consolidated snow underneath. Post holing is to be expected h...

Re: 20110415 - The North West Face of Mount Baldy

HJ, We could have come over the Dawson/Baldy saddle from Lytle Creek but that adds lot's of driving and I'm not sure that road is open all the way back there right now. We could have come in from Wrightwood or Vincent Gap but both of those required much longer routes and more unfamiliar terrain. The...

20110415 - The North West Face of Mount Baldy

Having first viewed the beauty of the Fish Fork drainage from the summit of Mount Baldy in the winter/spring of 2005 my first winter ascent of Mount Baldy, I’ve been drawn by the mystery that is the north face. (We had done the North East Face last winter and that made the voice in my mind get a lit...

20110410 Baldy North Face

Taco and I set out rather early to attempt the seldom touched North Face of Baldy. We were on the trail at 3:25 AM and realized rather quickly that it was going to be one hell of a long slug with all the fresh snow, added to that Taco was feeling just a bit under the weather so we decided to just do...

20110406 Baldy Bowl, last of the snow for this season :(

Norma, you are required to bring those cookies on the next Baldy group outing to see how they compate with So. Bay Mark cookies and "lik2hik" Cinnamon rolls- could have some serious competition going on this board
