Re: The Station Fire Thread
ALTADENA (CBSLA.com) — About 46,000 acres of the Angeles National Forest will reopen Saturday after the land was charred during the 2009 Station Fire. Some areas remain closed out of concern for public safety or because more work is needed on trails, according to the Forest Service. The closed areas...

Re: Big Santa Anita Canyon East Fork
He did mention that he had to walk close by several cabins. I'm not sure this can be avoided. The thing he emphasized the most was how remote the area is and that there were no signs that anyone had ever been back there before. But, he said it was definitely worth the scramble.

Re: Big Santa Anita Canyon East Fork
So, did either of you make it to Adam's Falls? Coincidentally, a friend of mine went there last Friday. He said there weren't any signs of humans back there and he had to climb over a lot of big boulders and fallen trees. Took him from 10:30 AM-3:30 PM (parking lot & back). He also said the fall...

Re: 1-15-11 Trip Report: Idlehour
I was also at Idlehour yesterday with a few friends, but we were there at 10:30 AM. There wasn't anybody else at the campsite, but we did run into a bunch of boyscouts on the way back up. That area down there is just beautiful this time of year. Eaton Canyon Falls is booming right now too.

Re: 1.13.11 mt wilson trail report (out of sierra madre)
Your Garmin readout states that the elevation gain is close to 6000'. Do you feel this is correct?
The reason I ask is that I recently did a hike near Idlehour with someone who also had a Garmin and that read 6200' gain where the guidebook stated 4100'.

Re: Mt. Wilson Toll Road (2N45)
I've heard that the Pincrest gate is closed until further notice and that the toll road is closed to hiking. Has anyone been there in the last few days and is this report true?

Cougermagic, can you tell if these are mountain lion tracks. I saw them today in the snow above Pico Canyon. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/gallery.myff.org/gallery/960749/017.JPG https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/gallery.myff.org/gallery/960750/009.JPG https://eispiraten.com/images-arc...

Re: The Station Fire Thread
I got an e-mail today staing that the Station Fire area closure order has been revised and the forest will now be closed through next summer. This is really unacceptable. Can we, as tax payers do anything about this or are we at the mercy of the ANF higher ups? Order No. 01-10-05 AREA CLOSURE ANGELE...

Looks like a fun trip. Surprised that the area isn't crawling with snakes; especially the off-trail portions.

Dave, I have a picture of the handrail in an old 1972 hiking book called, "100 hikes in California" by Don & Roberta Lowe. Maybe on a hike with you & Norma in the future, I'll bring it along to show you.

Re: The Station Fire Thread
The Sierra Club Trail Restoration Committee posted that they are beginning trail work on July 24th. It will continue on for weeks with work on a number of trails. Also, The Community Hiking Club (Santa Clarita) was given permission to hike the PCT from Indian Canyon to the North Fork Station on Apri...

Where did this come from? If true, it is great news.

Or is this a pre-April 1st joke?

Gridley Trail To Nordhoff Peak
Saturday was going to be another day of beautiful weather, so I decided to drive over to Ojai and hike up to Nordhoff Peak. This is one of the peaks on the Sierra Club's Lower Peaks Section list. At 14 miles RT and 3500' of gain, it was going to be a good workout. Arriving at the trailhead at 8:00 A...

Terry - would have been nice to meet you! Were you the two guys we said hi to at the upper camp? Funny, we were all talking about it being a small hiking world as we hiked up. Re: On The Hunt With Cougarmagic 11.21.09
Hey, I saw you guys up there on Saturday. We first passed you on the road when you were looking at the paw prints; just before the "trust-hikers". Then, we were sitting at the upper Campground when you walked by. Then, finally we saw you at Idlehour Trail Camp. If I knew you were from the ...

Re: General Conditions
I've done the hike from Pinos to Abel & back twice in the last month. The trail is in excellent condition. Lots of up & downs on the way. There are ducks marking the use trails to both Sawmill & Grouse. I figure it's about 13 miles RT. Temps were comfortable both times.....shorts & t...
