Thank you Sean -- you are correct. One time, they were having a cyclists' convention at MF and as a result,
the switchbacks on the roads were closed. It was a tough hike just walking those switchbacks and arriving at
MF. Lots of boots were set up there also. I was afraid this might occur again today ...

I am just wondering if mt blady road will be closed tomorrow = Sun 8/20/2017??

The reason I ask is because there is an event happening tomorrow from 8am-3pm a the
ski lifts area.

The forecast was correct.
There was rain at Manker and snow above the hut with everything possible in between. Lots of graupel and rime... whatever that is. :D The wind was blowing hard.

Fresh snow above the hut that was accumulating fast, an inch or more in less than an hour, our footprints ...

Anyone has any latest forecast for this? I wanna do adayhike
in the early morn hours tomorrow like 7:00am start --- just wondering...

By the way, I totally love storm conditions and full blown blizzards ....
My only worry is I hope I can dig my car out upon my return in the afternoon!!

IS the trail covered with snow, above the hut?
I know 3 weeks ago, I was able to reach the ridgeabove the hut with relative ease --- even though the shady area above the granite field was covered in snow....

Anyone been there lately?

I think Ranger stations are pretty useless after hours. Ihave had them not pick up the phone during business hours on many occassions, let alone during an emergency that is off hours. Only thing I have found the ranger stations good for, are weather reports and road conditions --- and on weather ...

here is ascenario: I go hiking on ski hut trail --- I tell my wife I will be home
at 4pm. I never show up. It is now 9pm.

What number can my wife call such that when it rings and she tells them "ski hut trail on Mt Baldy", then the people on the otherside know exactly what she is talking ...

Just curious where I can find info about people who got into
trouble on Baldy, in 2011?

Took a little hike up the ski hut trail. Trail is snow free up to the hut.
I stopped at the hut and went down. From the hut though, you cansee some patches in the shaded area that lead up to the ridge.

From the freeway, you can see afaint thin white snow line at the summit.
I am just guessing that ...

The most dangerous thing on the mountain: another person.

Avalanches, ice, bear, mountain lions, snakes dont even count.

So the next MOTHER F'ER who messes with me, gets his head blown to bits.

I read in news that she was found in the Fish Fork drainage area.
I am just trying to put this area in perspective from my memory.

So what I think is that if you are at the summit and you are headed down the Devil's backbone, then she fell to the left of the trail ....

how is the coverage on the shady steep area, on the ski hut trail, above the hut but below that ridge from where you can see the other side?

Thanks for the info. I think it is her writing because John Gibson was the roommate who reported her missing. The word "in emergency" also seems to match her handwriting.

Regarding CPR, there aren't a lot of people trained in it and those that are, usually decide to get the training voluntarily ...

I am just guessing but in her case I think she took a pretty bad fall and the weather did the rest, since she wasn't dressed for it .... so you are now injured, conscious and cold ... can't imagine the pain ....who knows, it is just a guess ....

I was there last sat up till the hut and that's pretty doable, almost no snow except for a few long patches before the hut ....

I did look over to past the stream and the trail did look covered big time... but wanna know for surre...

I was up on the mtn on the same trail Sat. I believe I ran into her on my descent. She had on a light blue jkt. This is below the hut. It might have been her because she did look familiar. Her eyes especially when I looked at her pic in the news....

Anyhow since I was up there also the week before ...

I heard last he was in hospital and I was wondering if any
one has seen him on Baldy since his 2005 accident?

Tim's picture is great, as is his description of things. The Bowl is on the other side (the one we can't see in the picture) of the ridge he labeled as the Bear Canyon Trail.
I tink I see it ... so if I look to the right of the Bear Canyon Trail, I see the upper part of the baldy bowl in shade ...

I do recall that as I am going up on the Ski Hut Trail, lets say about
50-100ft below the summit, I looked towarrds my left and I did see the
skyscrapers of down town LA ....you can see that entirre cluster from the position/location I described ....

I have been up Baldymany times and also many times on the West Baldy peak and most of the times, I take the SKi Hut Trail ....

What I can not put in perspective is where is the Baldy Bowl when I see Mt Baldy from LA? or lets say from the beach? All I see is large grayish surface and I do ...
