Human Bones Found
this doesn't qualify as a rescue per se, but i'm super intrigued by this finding of bones. very curious where this was and if it could be the guy who went missing in january.

Missing on Mt Wilson - Zachary Crehan
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of info about this guy or which Mt Wilson trail he was on, but apparently he’s been missing since the 5th (!) and there’s only just been a push on social media about it. I can’t seem upload a photo, so here’s a link:

Eaton Saddle to Inspiration Point
On Sunday the 17th, I headed up to Eaton Saddle for a wee treasure hunt. All I wanted for my birthday (which was Sunday) was 1) to hike, and 2) to see the sun. The cloud coverage was heavy, starting around 2,500', and only began to clear in some areas around 3,600', near George's Gap. IMG_8356.jpg I...

Re: INTROS - New members, introduce yourself here!
Yeah, the tube direction fits either Lowe summit or Inspiration Point, but the background only fits Inspiration Point. I could provide reference photos, but I recommend hiking up there and trying to match the exact spot yourself. It's fun to look for the ridgelines and rock faces and stuff. i actua...

Re: INTROS - New members, introduce yourself here!
Looks like there's a firebreak going up that ridge in the background. Anybody know where that is? That's the Lowe firebreak that goes up the SW ridge. They're standing in the vicinity of Inspiration Point with Mt. Lowe in the background. i had wondered about this and almost addressed it in my post....

Re: Missing forum member (Colin Walker)
There is one other factor that plays into this. According to the PSN, the South Pasadena Deputy City Manager stated the remains were found “300’ down a ravine”. It is safe to assume the ravine the official is talking about is the same one where the discovery call was made. It would make sense that ...

Re: INTROS - New members, introduce yourself here!
I have been commenting a bit around here, so I suppose I should introduce myself! I’m a music nerd and musician and have been in bands since I was a teen in the ‘90s. Despite growing up not too far away in the SFV, I’d never spent any time in the San Gabriels until I moved to the area five years ago...

Re: Missing forum member (Colin Walker)
Per the Pasadena Star News this morning, Colin was found "300’ down a ravine in the [ANF]'s Lower Clamshell Area." My guess is, having done this myself, that he started following one of the old switchbacks to the west or east of the firebreak, took a chance on some ground and it gave way;...

Re: Missing forum member (Colin Walker)
I know that law enforcement (with a warrant) can "ping" a phone, but is what is being referred to the ordinary communication that phones frequently do with cell towers -- I think even when no call is being made? yes, i was referring to the last known cell tower ping the morning he set out.

i recall them saying the last ping on his phone was only a mile from the car, two whole hours into the hike. that seems to match up with these findings?

not sure if the lack of detail here is because they weren’t ever able to determine cause of death, or if it’s a respect thing, but RIP albert, and well wishes to the injured. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230720/d0f99132c311e88536795024d194f925.jpg [edit] found th...

Re: Missing man near Millard (Albert Zisook)
yeah, the copycat aspect definitely makes sense to me, and psychology of holding back certain details, etc. i was more specifically wondering about the idea that it might be a common practice for any public incident of this nature - if it was found to be suicide - to be swept under the rug, like dav...

Re: Missing man near Millard (Albert Zisook)
I was part of the search planning section all week. As tempting as it is to speculate, I suggest just being patient until an official update can be posted. Hopefully it will be soon. The only reason there has been no official update yet is because there is no definitive conclusion. As soon as we ca...

after a bit of a dive, it seems there’s a psychiatrist called sidney zisook who specializes in depression and suicide prevention. i think that’s why those videos are popping up. that’s wild, though. i am curious, is radio silence after suicide SAR protocol, or media protocol? or..? the woman married...

i wondered the same. or if it was purposeful on his end, even. still seems kind of weird that they wouldn't say his death was under investigation or whatnot.

Re: Missing man near Millard (Albert Zisook)
i saw a comment on facebook by person married to someone in SAR that he was found deceased. no other details. i believe this was a few days ago when the helicopters (and the updates) stopped. i’m sure they have their reasons, but i wonder why they wouldn’t update the public after updating us daily o...
