I had estimated this week driving to work that the snow line was at about 5200' after this last storm. That seems to about check out with your photos?
The family and I went to Trail Canyon falls on Sunday, (we had never been), and were in T-shirts and shorts!

Oh cool great to see someone else exploring this rad little area! I did the Pico Canyon section with my family a few weeks earlier, giving me a chance to get a visual on the ridge.

The silly idea I have in mind involves some normies tho ... ~1 mile with 400 feet of gain or whatever it is to hike to the spot would be doable, but not so much if starting from three points!!Matthew wrote: Wed Feb 11, 2026 7:47 pm I know those silly ideas and I think it would make for a long backpacking trip if we did it

Wow, its been rainy down in SoCal. I love some good post-storm erosion exploration; this looks like fun. Could I see ya'lls route on a map by chance? I can't tell if you were just along Shoemaker road the whole time or not.

Thats a nice big day!
The High Sierra is awesome and all, but I always feel intrigued by all the surrounding 'lower' peaks that are still so rugged and oak-adorned like this one.

After focusing on work and family hikes, I'm planting a few seeds for some pirate and solo adventures this winter. My penchant for backyard exploring inevitably leads to lower-elevation routes, and the winter is when I more consistently get after it in SoCal.

I'd go at the end of winter, when ideally you'll encounter the least amount of flowers and green matter. The brown and dead stuff won't be as toxic, but try to avoid breathing in the particulates. Wear one of those good face masks and goggles. Wash your face afterward. And change your gloves so ...
