Re: Hawks Peak from Falls Ridge

Well, we could go up Earl, tag Pickens, then follow the Lukens Fire Road southeast past Hawks (and grab that along the way) to the Teepee, and then down whatever that trail is called (the TeePee Trail) to the end of Harter Lane. Or we could reverse that and go the other direction. Leave a car at ea...

I haven't been to Pickens yet. You still interested in that? Anyone else? Also, anyone know whether the Earl Canyon Fire Road is a viable route to Pickens? Parking/access issues? I went about halfway up Earl Canyon Fire Road in February of 2023 with a group of friends, no problems parking, perfectl...

Super cool! Yeah, wish I could have joined, would have definitely appreciated the geology. According to my geologic maps, they dug their shaft into the moon-rock anorthosite, but pretty close to its contact with Mendenhall Gneiss and Mt Lowe Granitic intrusion, so knowing the Gabes and knowing 200 m...

Re: Any one seen this movie?

Justina and I *tried* watching it last night. I think in the right context it would be a lot of fun, but we couldn't get through more than 30 minutes. I recommend alcohol or the green stuff before watching! Its a fun concept, well-executed. Basically a live action version of Wiley Coyote and the roa...

Re: Reflections on the Strawberry Peak west ridge by an Ice Pirate

The great thing about the West ridge of Strawberry is that it's easy enough for anyone to do it. Different people will have a different sense of how death-defying the thing is, but it's all doable. Glad yall finally got out there! Totally - its accessible, offers enough exposure to be a thrill whil...

This is a standard off-trail, HPS Sierra Club Josephine route. They have write-ups on their site with specific directions, how to do this one. Thanks... Reflections on the Strawberry Peak west ridge

On Sunday JeffH myself and Sean did a very enjoyable lollipop loop of Strawberry Peak starting from the road to Colby Camp on the Tujunga side. Great hike. I'm taking a little different approach to the TR this time. Let me preface this by saying, I'm the sort of hiker who is attracted to going off t...

Yes, the trail up from Colby Camp road ("Strawberry Colby") on the north Tujunga Creek side is perfectly nice. The area got hammered really hard by the station fire so its mostly all whitethorn brush and dead douglas firs except for one drainage that got sparred. The parking lot is huge an...

The Santa Clara divide sets 'em up, and I knock 'em down. Tuesday morning I knocked off a couple peaks along the Santa Clara divide road along its lonely path to Magic Mountain. I was just gonna say that he's on Santa Clara Divide looking across Pacoima Canyon, but Mendenhall is the flat top near the middle. I believe the fire road junction is near Highline Saddle. So that would make the closer, rounded summit The Pinnacle. If I'm correct, then way in the distance, over th...

Los Pinetos from the San Fernando Valley

Well, if my searching of the board archives is correct, this route does not have a trip report here yet. A blessed onshore flow allowed for some early season adventures in my hiking radius last week. A hike I've had on my to-do list for a long time is the venerable Los Pinetos from the south, baggin...
