Brown Mountain Loop

Started at the trailhead at top of Rising Hill in Altadena. We bagged Wella's Peak and then ascended the west ridge towards Brown. It was a bit of a steep bushwack, but we were able to find the trail fine and eventually ascended the ridge. Up and down we went bagging Brown Mtn and 3-4 other ...

Re: Old Mt. Wilson Trail

Hiked to First Water yesterday and can atest to a fine job by the trail crew. The burn scars are still there, but also so much greenery it was super enjoyable. New roaring cascades below too. I missed this trail so much and it's a miracle that a year later it's open, albeit not all the way yet to ...

Glad to see someone's getting out there. I have been grounded by a bum knee, holiday travel and now the flu. So frustrating. There's so much water out there!

Re: John W. Robinson Archives

Thanks for sharing. Does anyone know what happened to the Idle Hour structures? Fire? Flood?

Also there is that "T" placed above Henninger flat.
T.jpg

I have seen it in many historical photos. What did the "T" stand for? It appears to have been maintained for a few decades.

Yes we wandered around. We didnt go on the private property just walked by it on the road where you can access the main trail.

Considering my crew did all of the work on the trail and we had to study the entire area to be allowed to do the work, I'm obviously very aware of pretty much exactly ...

Re: Scofflaws hiking through burn areas

The issue with the San Gabriels is there is no one really in charge. No one has a vision for the range. Different areas are under different jurisdictions and funding is minimal. Fire safety seems to be the top priority, if anything at all. Unless there are endangered species, as I recently posted on ...

Monrovia and Ben Overturff

Early Sunday hike. First a warmup to Monrovia Falls and then up Sawpit, via Overturff trail and back down the fire road. Amazing time to go there. Water and blooms everywhere. Lots of bees and bugs too. Trails in great condition mostly shaded. Deer Park is easily accessible and so are the cabin ...

Re: The Fake Mt. Fuji

The area is well-shaded. One of the ribbons fell off and I tried to re-attach, but it disintegrated. So they were older. The area that I found them, there appeared to a well-graded trail with switchbacks. It could be an old access trail to the emergency broadcast equipment at the top. Or previous ...

Re: The Fake Mt. Fuji

More Fuji shenanigans today. The primary objective was the old Pasadena Glen fire road again, but this time east of where I went last time. It was getting hot on the way up, so I decided to first ascend via Wilson toll road in the shade and then drop in down the ridge from Fuji. Just like last time ...

Nice trip! Did you walk the old fire road back to henninger? It passable through that whole section?

You found a potato bug . Terrifying if they get into your house, but mostly harmless.

Yes the old fire road is fully passable with minor washouts that require some short bypasses. Jerusalem ...

Re: The Fake Mt. Fuji

Mt Fuji area exploration continued today. I came up Henninger road, rested at Fuji Camp, and proceed up, but I ended up leaving the road just past the Idlehour junction and took a "shortcut" going all the way up the Esme Canyon upper wash. I followed some human/deer trails and re-joined the Wilson ...

I used to use it regularly but the bottom section got eroded where the ropes are and got way too brushy. I now go down by the fire station and hike up canyon which is probably almost as quick with what shape the shortcut is in.

What a coincidence...I was just there today. Dropped in from the ...

That is a good way to summarize the first article dated 1/2. The writer got it all wrong.

However...the second article dated 1/22 tries to set the record straight...but then causes additional confusion. There is clearly some disagreement between TPCC and the Gabrielino Indians as to the legitimacy ...
