Re: Cuyamaca Bikepack with kid

It was the youngest kids turn last weekend. Opted for no rear rack and more stuff in the backpack to keep weight on bike down. Set up: handle bar bag has 2 sleeping bags and our cloths; downtube bag has bike tools, fuel, first aid; triangle bag has tent poles, water filter, 2 sleeping pads, 2 spoons...

Re: Cuyamaca Bikepack with kid

Round trip was 14 miles and 1500 ft elevation gain.

It is an established "primitive" camp, have to filter water from a pump and pit toilet but no other amenities. Only access is ride or hike in the 6ish miles.

Cuyamaca Bikepack with kid

Did our fourth annual bike into camp at the local State Park with the middle kid. Late leaving home due to classic dad stuff...clogged kids toilet and sink. F'ing Home Depot self checkout had all kinds of problems ringing up the toilet auger. Why does stuff like this always happen right when I'm try...

Nice TR!

Did the snow have a base in Lamel Spring Gully? In other words, was is dry and powder to the dirt or was there a firmer layer of snow under the powder? And did the coverage make it to the dirt road or how high above?

thanks for the info. I wasn't excited about Manker but friends wanted to stay there. I talked them into camping off a forest road in the San B's and driving to Baldy early Saturday morning. They found a spot (several available) and after the ride I drove home.

anyone ever camp (or attempt ) at Manker Flat Campground on a weekend? Is it a zoo? Impossible to get a spot?

I normal avoid developed campgrounds for car camping but don't know of a good spot in the Baldy area. Suggestions? PM if you want to keep it a secret. thanks.

Re: Kickass Singletrack

A few years ago I saw 2 mountain bikers riding down the bear canyon trail. I think you should give that a try Taco. In my opinion it is the best ~legal mtb trail in SoCal. Very, very technical and only would suggest for advanced bikers, unless you want to hike your bike most of the way. However, it...

Nice work and tr. Sure was warm up there. We passed a fresh wet slide near the south rim. Sarah mentioned that skiers had triggered it. 406 perhaps? Not me or a skier, hikers sliding down. I thought it would be nice to keep info and tr's about backcountry & resort skiing/boarding in one thread. A lot of times I only have a couple photos, not worthy of a full tr. Or condition up dates that the hikers might not care about. Feel free to add what you want. Ski areas: http://www.mtbald...

Re: Baden-Powell - 1/15/2011

It was a lot more powdery than I thought it would be almost the entire way up, but still had a little crunch to it on the top layer, if that makes sense. Nothing that would hold any weight, though. Then up as we gained the ridge, ice was everywhere and we had to work pretty hard to kick our steps i...
