That sounds like an awesome adventure. I don't think I could or would want to bike that much in that short a time, but pretty neat accomplishment, especially seeing all that terrain. Good point re the focus on camaraderie over achievement, and seems like plenty of opportunities for it. Nice!!

Re: Worrying our wives at Red Rock Canyon
Yeah, I recognized his name. Very cool!
I think it fair to say dima and I were maximally strained, particularly upon finishing the 5th class climbing and realizing we still had ridge to traverse and then finding that descent in the dark. What an adventure

Re: Worrying our wives at Red Rock Canyon
Correction: on day two we had intended to do Frigid air buttress (not wholesome fullback), but detoured to beta blocker corner to avoid the sun. Indeed, to reach the climb it requires a pitch or two up burlesque, then a couple traverse pitches to gain the top of a 200 ft waterfall. We could have ...

My strategy is to bring dima with, since he tends to wake up first and has a sweet coffee making setup. I'm borderline convinced to bring the full setup now while backpacking, but I admit I just use the instant packets for those endeavors.

Yeah, quite the unique place. As an aside, the trail along the ridge and down into the bowl is in primo shape... For now. A lot of pruning happened.

Re: C2T2C: Leatherneck to Skyline
There was water at the ranger station in long valley, so we refilled there. We brought 3L each.
I would do it again, but probably summit and then take the tram down; it's just down for maintenance this month. Awesome ridge hike for real.
I've been pretty happy with my la sportiva hiking shoes ...

I bet you could crush the trough or white maiden's walkway, even on lead. Fun time up there! Chimney and off width are hard since not much opportunities to practice those techniques outside of just climbing outside, and Tahquitz is the real deal for difficulty. Nice work

Cool adventure! Looks like a really pretty area to hang by the river. How big were these fish? Trout? Maybe time to bring out the tenkara rod, but I never tried in the Angeles forest.

Re: tuolomne triple crown
Yeah, I hear you can hike back to tenaya without that much more mileage. That might be the way to do it.
I went down those slabs last year coming off of eichorn pinnacle, after doing the west pillar, and it's considerably slower and sketchier than descending down the walkoff trail from cathedral ...

Tuolomne triple crown
I've been wanting to do this for ages: it's a linkup of three moderate climbs in the tuolomne meadows area that are relatively easily connected via some cross country hiking. Starts out at tenaya lake, goes up tenaya peak (1400', 5.5), cross country to the south side of matthess crest, then across ...

I brewed up some unincorporated coffee that Matthew gave me in my french press in tuolomne meadows campground this weekend. It was GOOD
Sorry, it was not back country and I do not have pics, but it was pretty rad to drink good coffee at high elevation surrounding by granite domes and trees

Wow, that's brilliant. I didn't realize hike a bike harnesses were a thing, but in retrospect it makes a lot of sense. I might have missed it there, but roughly how heavy is it on your back? I'm guessing you went as light as possible on camping gear, stove, etc?

Exactly; you don't need a permit for a day hike/climb, but if you want to overnight there it is required

mount goode, north buttress, deluxe variation, 5.11 1000ft
A friend got permits for Mount Goode, but couldn't go because of some injuries (that's no Goode....), so I recruited Jim last minute to come with me. We hiked in Friday night in the dark to set up camp at the south end of Long Lake, so as to get an early start and beat the threat of thunderstorms ...
