Re: Telephone Trail to Idlehour

I love seeing newts in the gabes! What's the story behind this "telephone trail"? Old unused trail? It's still used, just not very well maintained, and the last mile to Idlehour is gone. It used to be the way to Idle Hour Camp, back in the day. It was a road and you could drive to within ...

Was going to take a buddy on his first backpacking trip last year in the Sierras. That got canceled due to smoke. Redo of the trip was next weekend.... already gave him the bad news.

Surprising that given today's technology and free access to all the tools (alltrails, GPS apps etc...) people still find a way to be lost, especially on a clear sunny day.?

Fantastic! I love going up FRC, such a fun climb! Even when it's covered in snow and ice. Of all the peaks around there Sugarloaf certainly is the least visited peak.

Re: Bobcat Fire in West Fork

The Monrovia FB page has the Zoom briefing from yesterday. Not much to report, except that the plan is to contain the fire at Harvard and Wilson. The roads and firebreaks in the area help them keep the fire from spreading west along the front canyons. They hope to stop it at previous Station Fire l...

Re: Bobcat Fire in West Fork

If I'm not mistaken, seems to be ascending Glenn Canyon towards Monrovia Peak as well. For reference, I think the lower part of Cogswell-Rincon-RedBox connector road is visible sloping upwards just right of the dam - looks like the smoke is coming out of the canyons behind that ridge. Cool! I was actually just looking at this peak on the map the other day and reading other people's TRs. Seems like a fun little ridge hike. I'll wait until cooler weather lol. Hows the rest of the ridge up to Mt Waterman look? Is it just more of the same type of terrain/vegetation?
