Re: 7-17-08 Islip Saddle to Devil's Punchbowl

I here what your saying. I have too much invested in that lense and camera to risk damaging it. If I were to break that camera, or lense, I wouldn't be able to afford a replacement right now. I actual took a few falls toward the end of my trek, and i'm glad I had the camera in my bag. After descendi...

Re: 7-17-08 Islip Saddle to Devil's Punchbowl

I keep the camera inside of the bag, when I descend because I slip and slide going down the scree slopes. I dropped my D-50 once, one foot above my carpet, and I destroyed the 18-55 lense. I upgraded to a Zoom Nikkor 18-135 lense. I don't want to replace that lense. I guess a "bino buddy" ...

7-17-08 Islip Saddle to Devil's Punchbowl

I had reports that my geocache located near the tail section of a C-46A Commando was missing. I talked my dad into dropping me off at Islip Saddle, and about 7 hours later, I met my wife at Devil's Punchbowl. I would have taken more pictures but I got tired of pulling the D-50 out of my backpack eac...

Re: Lake Pyramid area 7/3/08 - White Mountains

The sensitivity prank was played out when I said, "call me a bit insensitive," because I wanted to keep illegals, and non-taxpayers out of public land.

They even snuck in and edited my profile to add that to my tag line. It took me a day or two before I even noticed the prank.

I like your optimistic scenario. I figured he used them to restrain his prisoners after taking their bivy sacks. I definitely want to bring four flashlights and four knives but no sleeping bag on my next trip. Methinks the "preparedness" cart has been put before the truly essentials horse...

She didn't mind picking me up.

I got lazy and didn't want to scale that damn scree slope again. After doing that brush filled gulley, I think i'd rather upclimbed instead.

Re: Will Thrall Pk (7845'), Pleasant View Ridge (7983')

The alimony trail is gated at a bit West of my parking spot. This is courtesy of that stupid toad closure, from the 90s. But you were able to get to the area you mark as "starting point," yes? Starting there is a signficant elevation advantage, and you don't have to go up and over Thrall ...

Re: Will Thrall Pk (7845'), Pleasant View Ridge (7983')

Interesting route! The ridge actually looks like a good avenue up into that area. How was the XC travel? The ridge looks a little rougher once you get past point 7025 ("P") but otherwise not bad. Getting down to the wreck in the vicinity of point "O" looks gnarly . I'm curious w...

That wasn't a cell phone, that was my old gps. You're right the idea was to improve the man, not to reach the top of the mountain. Here is a new quote to ponder. Times of great calamity and confusion have been productive for the greatest minds. The purest ore is produced from the hottest furnace. Th...

I've hiked the NW section below "PVR" to visit an aircraft wreck site. My route was "all uphill," but fun nonetheless. I never summited "PVR" because I needed to descend to find the wreck site. A topo I made that you guys might find interesting. https://eispiraten.com/i...

I'm the last person to encourage inceased govt. encroachment on my life. I think we'd all like to see increased government enroachment on the lives of people who ruin the wilderness. Or the cities, for that matter. Stopping short of law enforcement / immigration background checks, I know of no effe...

Re: Help get rid of the Adventure Pass!

I'm the last person to encourage inceased govt. encroachment on my life. My original post was "tongue in cheek." I'm sure many of you see the same people destroying the forest as I do. My example of a place ruined is Big Rock Creek, near Valyermo California. This spot has become the party ...

Call me a bit insensitive, but I would much rather we go through a check point before entering National Forest Land. To gain access, you would need to provide proof of U.S. citizenship, or proof that you pay taxes in the U.S. Illegals would be denied access, and so would people who collect welfare....

Why would the Pleasant View area need to be designated as wilderness? It has zero roads, and no bike trails. I see none of the area under threat of development. I guess it makes the "Tree Huggers" happy that there will never be a bike trail, or a road. I sure hope the hippies in the...

Hi Everyone, I'm the new guy here and I wanted to share my passion with you. I like to go on long hikes to visit military wreck sites. As many of you already know, there are two crash sites just North of Mt. Williamson A C-46 Commando, and a C-119 Boxcar. A really good site to visit is the C-130 cra...
