Re: Photo Climb/Trek up to Mt Baldy - Feb 04 2010

I've got some pickets I can contribute to the anchor, and a dry rope.

There's probably two good ways to do this - rap down on an autolocking belay device like a grigri or cinch, or tie into the end and have someone lower you off the anchor.

I have the regular Contacts, and I'd love them even more in stainless. They're plenty for anything in the SG's.

Re: General Conditions

I got onto register ridge around noon and it was nightmarish. I got knocked off my feet a few times and called it quits. Going down my tracks had disappeared. Fun. Saw someone in a little hatchback pretty much flooring it around icehouse, just crawling uphill spinning his tires. Fuckin' hilarious.

Re: General Conditions

Yeah, it blew yesterday. I got soaked just on the way to the register, and from there I could see it was probably another 1500+ feet in the rain before i hit the snow level. I just bailed.

I'll try again in a day or two, after the colder fronts move in and drop the snow level.

Re: Taco Thursday at Baldy Bowl 12-17-09

What a fun mini epic to start the season. Mostly due to poor planning/choices on my part. I didn't bother to sleep the night before, nor did I hydrate or eat much. Kind of a bad start. I got on the trail around 0530 or so, kept a nice slow pace all the way into the middle of the bowl, where Ryan and...

Re: Baldy on Thursday Dec-17-2009

See you guys up there. I'll be headed up a little earlier (my out of shape ass is probably going to take a while) to test out my tent with the deadmans I just cobbled together. Is there enough snow up top to bury guyline anchors?

I don't know. But I think a few members of the "LA County Natural Resources Management and Sales" office should start patrolling the area with cashboxes and receipt books.

I really liked Three Cups of Tea as well. Didn't actually read the book until after I met Mortenson (pretty randomly, he was giving a talk at a private event in our restaurant), but even before I read the full extent of his accomplishments it was easy to see how he was able to get so much done in su...

Mt. Baldy chamber of commerce has free* ski passes available first come first serve. http://mtbaldychamber.com/promotions.lasso?from=b *Really, it costs $50 for some arbitrary "fee". I don't use the ski area or lifts enough each season to warrant buying one, but I figured I'd pass on the i...
