Re: Allison Mine to Iron Mountain
Great report and photos. Tekewin and I talked about exploring around there at one point but it never came together, so I'm glad to get a chance to see what it looks like!

Re: Miscellaneous Mid-Atlantic Meandering
Yeah, I should have asked the guy with climbing gear where he was going. I saw a couple potential spots later in my run but didn't see him on them, so there must be a better spot tucked away. I assume anyone who waits at the gate first thing in the morning on a weekday to climb knows the best spot! ...

Glad you made it back ok and learned some things! Without checking a proper weather report (mistake #1) We've all made this mistake before. I always email my wife a written trip plan using a template I created that includes a basic trip plan, weather, route, times, and satellite messenger plan. Havi...

SNP Bluff Trail/Big Devil's Stairs/Appalachian Trail/Mount Marshall Trail Loop I'm trying to see different sections of Shenandoah and wanted something more moderate than last time since I'm recovering from a minor injury, so this was kind of a test to see how I did. I'm a bit slower than I'd like, ...

A nice ride, a sweet vehicle rollover, AND whales? I got outside today but all I got was a small antler and a flat tire. Great report and photos! What sort of souvenirs did you carry around and bring home? Interesting historical note on the plane crash test, I'd never seen those videos before and it...

Idianhead is a ton of fun if you are up for some good rocky scrambling! I'm looking at my pics and see I did it in 2013, time flies... I took the standard trail up the valley then picked a random spot to start going up. Pretty sure I stayed mostly to the west just below the main ridge. Like tekewin ...

I love history!Herbert the Mule used to pull the open air train, but they fed him leftover garbage from the Alpine Tavern and he farted so much they had to change the setup to where he pushed the train instead.

From some pics I've seen it does get extremely busy during the summer.
