Re: TR: PCT - Cloudburst Summit to Burkhart Trail

Nice report. I haven't been there since the fire; sucks to see so much damage but also good to see that some trees got spared. Such a bummer because this area was so nice.

Re: Trail Canyon Update

I drove past the TH last weekend and saw what looked like 100 cars. What a pity... I hiked to Tom Lucas and beyond a few months ago when the waterfall was still dry and the hoards weren't there. Funny you mention pants, I came across a guy in the overgrown area in shorts with bloody legs. Here's my ...

Re: Shoes for bushwhacking/rugged trails

So nobody wears trail runners huh? Does that mean I'm poorly equipped or ahead of the game? Haha. The Bushidos are awesome for long distance. Light, sticky, and very comfortable. They usually last me a year (I average about 300 miles/year). I think I need some mids for heavier bushwhacking though. I...

Shoes for bushwhacking/rugged trails

What's your preferred shoe/boot for bushwhacking or hiking on rugged trails?

I've been using La Sportiva's Bushido trail runners for a couple years but they have limitations on particularly rugged treks.

I went to Third Stream Crossing waterfall a couple of months ago. It was great and we only saw one group of people. Much better than the circus that is Bonita Falls. The cedars are worth visiting in themselves. 6th falls sounds interesting. Gonna have to research that.

Re: All National Forests to Close in California for 3 weeks

It does appear that the ANF is mismanaged. But it's also true that dumbass humans will burn it down and destroy it in other ways if something doesn't change. I'm not sure what should be done, but something has to be done! More resources seems like a good start. Firefighters, rangers, etc. The amount...

Re: All National Forests to Close in California for 3 weeks

I hate to say it but CA needs to rethink its forest management. I just don't see how the current status quo can be maintained. California? Hehehe.....This is a federal order. Its the whole USA. Approved by DC. Why California...shut it all down...I mean if its "not taken lightly". You tell...

Re: All National Forests to Close in California for 3 weeks

I don't like to see it but unfortunately it probably has to happen. Too many idiots flooding the forests and causing fires and trashing the place. Resources are stretched thin and things could get really bad if another big fire starts. I hate to say it but CA needs to rethink its forest management. ...

Iron Mountain #2

After recently discovering that the gate at Mt. Gleason Road is now open, I returned last weekend to attempt hiking Iron Mountain #2. I moved to LA in 2008, so I had never visited the Mt. Gleason area due to the closure of Mt. Gleason Road. Needless to say I was pretty excited. Driving up Mt. Gleaso...

I saw Anthony's post about the road being opened and headed out Saturday to see if i could cross Gleason off the list without a 22 mile ride in. Road is fully open, and pretty good condition. Pretty wide for most of it all the way to Gleason, no real issues with brush scrapes. Walked up to Gleason,...

I hiked the PCT around Pacifico Mountain today, and on my way back home, I noticed that the gate at Mount Gleason Rd was open. Does anyone know if it's back open for good? Or maybe it was just open temporarily for service?

I've been dealing with some health issues (not COVID) but I'm back to normal and embarked on my first "hard" hike of the year on Sunday: Rattlesnake Peak. My buddy and I took the main route from Shoemaker Canyon Road. It was my first trip to Rattlesnake. We didn't have any issues with over...

Re: SAR Seeking Help Identifying Location In Photo

I am pretty sure this is the ridge from Twin Peaks to Triplet. They ran a trace on the last phone call and it showed a similar location from where the call was made. It would also make sense to be able to get phone reception there. That makes sense. I can't imagine there being reception north of th...
