Re: Missing hiker on Baldy (Julian Sands)
Hiking solo at Baldy in a snow storm. Sounds like a great idea.

Great idea, folks! I visited the creek on Saturday BEFORE the latest storm and it was raging. Smh.

Re: Mount McKinley
I went to Tom Lucas in Fall 2021 and it was pretty overgrown, but I could've kept going. I've done worse. I saw a guy on the trail who was wearing shorts and his legs were sliced up pretty bad. Pant zone for sure. Now I'm curious how far one could reasonably go...

Ha, I was up there on the same day. My buddy and I heard you and your partner coming down the use trail as we were going up the established trail. We hiked from Trail Canyon. I ran into another user from here on nearby Iron Mountain (I'm forgetting his name right now).

I wonder how much experience they had and which route they took. RIP.

Middle Fork Trail to Icehouse Saddle
My buddy and I hiked the Middle Fork Trail to Icehouse Saddle on Sunday. I knew it was going to be hot, but I figured it was worth doing since Sunday was a relatively cool day and Icehouse Saddle is always a pleasant place, even on a sweltering day. There was water flowing at Third Stream Crossing. ...

Re: Wild View Peak & Pine Mountain Ridge
I hiked Wild Peak with a friend on Saturday (I actually had plans to do it before I saw this post!). 3N39 is indeed a bit rough at one point and a low clearance car would almost certainly get stuck. That said, I had driven to Lupine once before (to hike Pine Mountain Ridge) and this section was wors...

Re: East Fork: Devil Gulch Falls and Iron Fork
Nice to see water still flowing. So do the Newport water sandals have a good grip? How was all the stream crossings over rocks? I need to buy some newxwater sandals. Yes, they have good grip and I had no issues streaming crossing over rocks. I was moving faster than everyone in my group. I did 14 m...

Re: East Fork: Devil Gulch Falls and Iron Fork
I went to Devil's Gulch Waterfall and the bridge on Sunday. As expected, the entire East Fork was an absolute zoo. I've never so many people there, including 5 CHP cruisers who at one point blocked access via car to the TH. I didn't see a single FS ranger though. The waterfall is worth the effort ev...

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)
Well, this is weird. I asked around on Reddit, and a person who said he was a volunteer at Grassy Hollow said that the road to Lupine was open if you have 4WD. Dunno what to think. I guess if the smoke clears and all that, then I could go but just be prepared to do the road walk. If the road is ope...

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)
I called the Acton Work Center. They confirmed that the Lupine Road is closed because it's in bad condition. Oh, so it's entirely closed? Good to know. Well, now my only hesitation is the Sheep Fire. The friends I want to go with a concerned about smoke and such (which is a legit concern of course)...

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)
Driving to the North Backbone is probably unnecessary, as you'll have to walk that section either way when doing the loop. Might as well park at Guffy (or Lupine Road gate) and save some time--and gas. @Sean , thanks. Yeah, I kind of have things mapped out from the junction where the road down to L...

Re: Blue Ridge Road (3N06)
1. ACH is open all the way to Wrightwood. 2. There's a gate at Guffy and it should be open. You should call the FS and double check. 3. Not sure about that gate. 4. I have driven all the way to the Pine Mountain TH but I have a 4Runner. I've never seen a sedan back there. It might be doable but you'...
