Not sure if these pics have been shared yet. This guy has posted a lot of shots from ACH corridor.

Re: Bobcat Fire in West Fork
I don't know if the fire is needed in this area or not, but I'm really bummed to say the least. I suppose we just have to be thankful that we had the chance to explore the SG and PVR wilderness areas before the fire. I've been trying to understand the complex nature of fire and our response to it by...

Re: 4 x 3 on the San Bernardino Ridge via Momyer
Anthony, the east ridge of Shields is the easy way up. The spine from the west is the most fun, the other ways are a bit sketchy as the rock is loose. Anderson is a walk up a low angle slope, there are several mounds but it is easy to find the true peak. The Anderson Flats has lots of good camping ...

Re: 4 x 3 on the San Bernardino Ridge via Momyer
Nice timing on this report. This weekend I plan on backpacking up the Forsee Creek Trail along the SB Peak Divide and then down the South Fork Trail. I expect to bag Anderson and Shields along the way. So the east ridge of Shields is sketchy?

Throop Peak
After a scorching hike to Black Mountain in the San Jacinto Mountains on the previous weekend, I thought it would be nice to do a relatively cooler hike the Angeles High Country. I settled on hiking from Dawson Saddle to Throop Peak, which I've bagged before. However, this time I continued south wes...

Grouse Mountain
My lady and I took a Sunday stroll to Grouse Mountain. We parked at the trailhead on Cerro Noroeste Road, southeast of Campo Alto campground. I've been making an effort to explore LPNF this summer, as ANF and SNBF have been overrun with hoards of people due to the lockdown. LPNF is less crowded, at ...

Re: Double Delight Peak
Hows the rest of the ridge up to Mt Waterman look? Is it just more of the same type of terrain/vegetation? Actually it opens up even more and is a very casual walk up to Waterman. Make a loop of it and return via the Twin Peaks Saddle-to-3-points trail. Yeah, the ridge widens when you get to Double...

Double Delight Peak
I'm a few weeks behind on my trip reports, so I'll get one out now before I go out tomorrow. I hit Double Delight Peak for the first time two weekends ago with some friends. After researching various routes, I settled on taking the SW ridge from Three Points. We headed out from the parking lot at ar...

Awesome peak. I haven't hit the Cucamonga Wilderness this year yet -- I plan on bagging Big Horn Peak for the first time soon.
How's the route via Falling Rocks? Sounds hard.

Re: Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2)
CA-2 is open at Islip. I had to make an interesting call into CHP last night. Apparently CalTrans sent 'the new guy' to unlock the CA-2 gate at Islip. That person also opened the CA-39 gate. It was open all day yesterday, and folks were merrily driving down...and back up, since the lower gate is st...

Re: Mt. Baldy Area Trip Reports
Not quite the same thing, but if my memory doesn't fail me, I think someone here (maybe Sean or AW) went up Coldwater Canyon some or all the way to the saddle between Thunder and Telegraph. Can't find that TR, but you can see in satellite imagery remnants of an old road in that canyon up to about t...

Re: Mt. Baldy Area Trip Reports
Has anyone here hiked to Baldy Notch from Stockton Flats via the forest road? It shows as 3N06 on the FS map and "Baldy Road" on the USGS topo.

Piru Creek
I went to Piru Creek for the first time on Saturday with a friend who's been going there since the early 80s. We saw quite a few cars at the trailhead but we soon learned that most of the people must've went to Slide Mountain or Piru Ponds. We had the creek to ourselves except for a couple groups of...

Re: Mixed message from ANF
I think they are suggesting to hike on unmaintained trails! Maybe they are leaving the tweet up for interpretation as well? I believe what they're suggesting is broader than that. It seems like they're suggesting that we should avoid specific developed sites, trailheads, and trails. So I don't thin...

Re: Grass Mountain (Sierra Pelona range)
Looks like you had a great day with great views that included nice cloud formations. I heard that there are more poppies since I was there a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately it is now closed to hikers. I imagine the bloom will look even better in the coming week or so. A lot of the poppies we saw...

Grass Mountain (Sierra Pelona range)
My lady and I have been knocking out PCT sections over the past month. Our latest outing was to Grass Mountain in the Sierra Pelona range, just south of Elizabeth Lake. We parked at the PCT TH on San Francisquito Canyon Road. There were about 4 cars there. IMG_4925.JPG It was chilly and looked like ...

The stay at home order is from the state but the ANF is not a state organization. Apparently they're not on the same page, which is nothing new in this country.
