Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

I saw a post on FB from Adams Pack Station that the Chantry Flats road is being worked on and it will be closed for at least eight months. Does this seem like poor management to you?

Re: Bobcat Fire in West Fork

Is there a new fire now east of where Bobcat is, down by the foothill cities? I can see a huge dark plume and a pyrocumulus cloud from my balcony in Silver Lake. Hard to tell exactly where it is, except it is pretty far east of Wilson, but maybe not quite as east as Baldy, and burning very low in t...

That's my problem; I have no sense of smell, so I get no warning.

Re: Dead Animals

I was road walking from Buckhorn Campground back to Cloudburst Summit and almost walked into a dead deer near Krakta Ridge. It looked like most of it's vitals were gone. I shoulda taken a photo; sorry.

No, Just some cooling refreshment. There's a nice ledge you can walk on, though it's a little mossy

Re: New toilet at the old Tavern site

There is a 2 door version of this at Spruce Grove. It's made by Toilet Tech Solutions, toilettech.com. It separates liquids from solids to aid in decomposition. Hopefully they'll be installing these at Hoegee's soon.

Re: Quick Hoegee's Trip

I've seen a few different bears at Hoegee's over the years. I think that they hang around for a free meal because of all of the unprepared people that go there. I always take a bearcan. Spruce Grove is just over the hill from Hoegee's. Just remembered that we were at Hoegee's another time and a guy ...

Quick Hoegee's Trip

My wife and I went to Hoegee's Friday night to try out some Christmas gear; new Nitecore NU25 headlamps and new Cedar Ridge Outdoors quilts. Thumbs up on both pieces of gear. Hoegee's was good. A couple of other groups, Plenty of water in the creek, and no sign of bears. The toilets are boarded shut...

I put Twitter on my phone so I can...

Re: Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2)

Can confirm that ACH is open on the East side from Vincent Gap to Islip Saddle. (for now) Drove up there on Monday afternoon to check on conditions, and ended up giving a few PCTers rides. Lots of small rock fall on the road, especially between Vincent Gap and Islip Saddle, with some larger rocks in...

Re: Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2)

So, I tried to find some contact info to complain, in hopes that they would rectify the situation. That didn't do any good, but I did get a phone number to a district office which will hopefully be able to give out correct information. The number is (909) 383-4631. I'm going to call that number befo...

My name is Rob, and I'm an old fart (59). Started backpacking in Scouts in the 70s, as a Scout leader took boys out in the 80s. Hoegees, Oakwilde, Gabrielino trail; we went all over the place. Life got in the way until a few years ago when me and my wife started backpacking again. We love getting o...

Was at Hoegee's this past weekend, and the loos are thrashed. Only one is closed, but one has the metal "toilet" pulled out of the hole in the slab, and another has the seat/lid torn off. And there is crap, literally and figuratively, all over.

What's the status of the closure now? I would like to drive from the San Bern area up to Cooper Canyon Falls. However, I can't see any current closure info on the CalTrans website.
