Forest Service to Park Service

Hey there, since I moved to Reno in 2016, I noticed both the San Gorgonio Wilderness and most of the Angeles National Forest have been re-designated National Monuments or National Recreation Areas or some other designation moving administration from the Department of Agriculture to the Department of ...

Re: Taco's Bike Thread

I still haven't installed a motor on my bike, but I keep on riding to work. Yesterday it was 19 degrees here when I rode to work. Frosty!

It's dark in the morning at this time of year, which is okay with me because my bike is lit up like a Christmas tree and in any case there isn't a lot of traffic ...

Re: Taco's Bike Thread

Holy crap, he has risen! How you likin' Nevada? I rode through Reno a year ago. Not bad for a city. The state outside the cities is great, so quiet.

I love it here, I really do. Wish I came here 20 years ago. I chose Reno because it's right up next to the mountains, but as it turned out I spend ...

Re: Stickers! Stickers! Stickers!

Those were meant to be bumper stickers, sort of an Eispiraten version of the Grateful Dead teddy bear stickers. We never made any. I don' think there was a lot of enthusiasm for the idea.

Re: Taco's Bike Thread

In 2018-2020 I lived up in the hills east of here, and for some reason I decided I wanted to begin commuting to work on my bike.

I bought a Giant Sedona in 2004 and used it intermittently since then. But then in 2018 or so it was reborn as my daily commuter, for the 15 mile roundtrip to work. My ...

Re: New mountain dog

Bella turned 13 years old last week.

She's very slow these days, but she still enthusiastically chases the tennis ball every day. Apparently her eyesight is going as she barks at people she sees outside the office because, I believe, she doesn't recognize them. She very rarely barked at anything ...

Were the old threads preserved?

Hey there, I was trying to share Ellen's story with some online friends and the above links no longer work. Does anyone know where else her account might be found? Or is she still active here?

The thread doesn't seem to specify that the cairn has to be in the San Gabes...
Until a year ago I used to live in Hidden Valley, just east of Reno tucked up against the Virginia Range. Decorating prominences with cairns is all the rage in the Virginia Range:

Yeah, there are apparently two accounts. Since they won't let me change the password on the forum account, I'd really like them to make it go away.

Re: Tapacraptalk warning

. . . except my old login and password still work also. The whole point of changing my password is to ensure my old password isn't linked to my e-mail address when the site inevitably gets hacked.

So are the old logons supposed to go away completely?

The Tapatalk people gave me a link to a password reset page where I don't need to use my old password. I guess that ought to work, but . . . it's easy to imagine what a disaster that could be. They ought to fix the problem.

By the way, Ingrid and I did the entire High Sierra Trail (Giant Forest to Whitney Portal) in August of 2013. I thought I'd posted a trip report here, but I guess I didn't.

I put a shitload of photos up on Flickr, tho: https://www.flickr.com/photos/simonov/a ... 5222443247

I got the warning, dutifully changed my Tapatalk name to mitch_barrie, then attempted to change my password (which I no longer want associated with my e-mail address since back in the day I used it on multiple sites). Well, the geniuses in Bangalore at Tapatalk who coded this thing don't recognize ...

Hike suggestions for teens: aspen grove

We scheduled a hike through the San Gorgonio Wilderness's Aspen Grove for next month for our after school hiking program. Now that the Aspen Grove has been destroyed in the Lake Fire, I am looking for an alternative.

I understand there is an aspen grove in the Big Bear area. Does anyone have any ...

In the meantime, what do you think of these bumper sticker ideas?

San Gorgonio this summer

We are thinking about doing some multi-day hikes in the San Gorgonio Wilderness this summer, but are concerned about water. Does anyone here have any information or ideas in that regard? The SGWA Backcountry Board is almost useless.

The Limber Pine Bench spring seems to be pretty good no matter ...
