Re: Ingraham Direct 090612
Nice work guys, and beautiful pictures! I'm curious about simonov's vintage ice axe--is there a story behind that? My neighbor has been into winter mountaineering for decades and when he heard I was going to climb Mt Baldy the winter before last he dug the ice axe out of his garage and gave it to m...

Since giardia seems to be about as common a malaise in California as leprosy, I have long been convinced that the evangelism of the importance of water filtering is a product of the water filter manufacturing industry, as well as retailers like REI. There was a link here or at SummitPost to a recent...

Can anyone tell me what these are?
This was blooming in the sort of heather that lines the trail to the Ski Hut.
And what is this?

Mt Baldy overnight 30-31 May
I decided to spend the night at the top of Mt Baldy, and after arriving at the top before 11:00am, spent the day there watching wave after wave of day hikers come up and descend again. I'm sure over 200 people summited on Saturday, but there was never more than about 40 or 50 people on the summit at...

Re: San Gorgonio Mtn 2009/05/31
We where a bit concerned on the way up with dark clouds building and reports of lightning, hail, & snow from people descending who had spent the night on the Summit, we just had some clouds and sun with cool temps and variable winds up to about 40mph. It was chilly and all I brought was a windb...

You aren't getting sick from the water in Icehouse Canyon, you're getting sick from the taco stand burritos you eat after every hike.

This. That is an awesome map. Get it printed up bigass size and then mounted on gatorfoam so you can stick pins in it if you want. Kinkos can do it all for you.hvydrt wrote:Take that PDF Max posted to Staples or Kinkos and have them print it in a large format. Most of them can print up to 3'x5'.

Sorry to hear about this, Patrick. I met Lucy and I know she was a devoted hiking partner. It's terrible that this has to happen, but also sadly inevitable for those of us who choose these noble, but relatively short-lived, creatures as friends and companions. You might enjoy this, one of my favorit...

San Gorgonio Memorial Day Weekend 2009
For the second year in a row, I planned a three-day trek through the San Gorgonio Wilderness, including a San Gorgonio summit climb, for the OCHBC . Last year was a bust because of a twisted ankle (mine) and cold nights too extreme for my dog. But this year everything went off perfectly. There were ...

Nice. Great hike. Day hike or overnighting? There is a good XC short cut from that route that cuts out some mileage. Interested? Or maybe you know about it already? Three day hike. First night at Fish Creek Saddle, next night at Mineshaft Flat. Sounds from the San Gorgonio board like we might be sh...

Whoa, I would have expected more snow on the north side of Baden-Powell.
I guess winter is officially over in the San Gabriels. Now I have to negotiate snowfields on the way up San Gorgonio this weekend.

If there is a nice stream near your trail camp (and there are two near John's Meadow), you can bring beer and keep it cool in the mountain spring water. Otherwise I just carry red wine. I was actually kind of sick the day the photo was taken, and wouldn't eat anything except two bottles of Negra Mo...

Sounds like you didn't see anyone on the Momyer Trail.
I used to patrol that trail and as far as I can tell it has no redeeming features aside from solitude and the fact it takes you to nice trail camps like Alger Creek and Dobbs Cabin.
