That is some serious revving.

Those little electric RC cars are more realistic-sounding than I thought.

Re: BE SURE TO TURN UP YOUR PC VOLUME FOR THIS

Roadworthy yet? Gotta jump through some California hoops? No California hoops, it's pre-1973. Some assembly still required. But it will be drivable once the front end alignment is completed and I get the exhaust system hooked up, maybe within a week. I misplaced the original license tags somehow in...

Re: Pair of cougars attack 2 hikers

Is there any information with regard to lion encounters in areas (such as the San Gorgonio Wilderness, Cucamonga Wilderness, etc) that have not been subject to habitat reduction during the last quarter century? All the human/lion encounters I have heard of in recent years have occurred in areas not ...

Stienstra writes in a much different tack than the typical writer on issues such as this. He is a hunter and doesn't follow the typical "poor creature" model. Yeah, I thought this was a particularly bizarre take on the situation: "The incident was one of the most dramatic verified sh...

Re: Hike permitting

What a crock! Bureaucracy at its finest. In the San Gorgonio Wilderness I don't know of any way to legally hike in parties of more than twelve. Frankly, groups larger than twelve or fifteen people are an unacceptable impact on the wilderness, as well as the other people up there trying to enjoy it.

Baldy should be getting snow tomorrow.

Who among us wants to do a repeat of the epic climb from two years ago?

Not me, sadly.

Man, I love a wide angle lens.

I used to carry my DSLR around up in the mountains, but got tired of that and picked up a P&S.

Those are some excellent photos.

Heading up the bowl on a weekday with no one around is a little alarming.

Re: would it be possible to get up on baldy without crampons ?

I saw quite a few cramponless boot prints in the snow when I was up there on Sunday, so someone is climbing without crampons.

The most hazardous part of the route, at least in the early morning, is the ice-covered asphalt of the San Antonio Falls Road.

A Mt Baldy Climb, 31 Jan 2010

Work kept me out of the mountains since the Big Snow came, but I finally got away Sunday. I arrived at Wanker Flats about 6:00am, and since I had already prepared my boots and everything at home before I left, all I had to do was slap on the gaiters and move out. It was expected to be a beautiful da...

I have the regular Contacts, and I'd love them even more in stainless. They're plenty for anything in the SG's. Just a note: stainless is useful if you have a real problem with rust, but it is usually not as tough as plain carbon steel. So you will be sharpening your points more often with stainless.

I filed a report today. The detective already knew about this - he saw it on Altadenablog. He said since the video doesn't show the camera being removed, that I shouldn't refer to this person as the thief. Middle-aged non-Negro, non-Hispanic. There is simply no way he could possibly be the thief! R...
