Re: Hiking below Hermit Falls?

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has explored the portion of the creek that runs below Hermit Falls, near Chantry Flats? While I've seen many reports from ABOVE Hermit Falls-I'm most interested in the portion between Hermit Falls and the Reservoir/dam. Thanks! You can go all the way to the start of...

Any way to get to water level (EFSG) from Shoemaker Canyon?

I checked out Shoemaker Canyon (Cold war tunnels) today and am wondering if anyone has found a way down to the EF San Gabriel from the trail? After the second tunnel, the trail gets a bit sparse and I was interested in running, not bushwhacking, so I didn't go too much further. It doesn't look promi...

Re: Idlehour Water

I finally made it there yesterday for the first time. Still a good deal of water in the creek. And a lot of mosquitoes!

It is longer than the posted 1.5 miles from the cutoff.

Re: Cat-tle Canyon

I got a few frames with the momma in it, but it was before I cleaned the lens, so the stills here are of the cub. Probably 6 months old.

Re: Cat-tle Canyon

Well, now that I see it on a large screen , uploaded to youtube, the quality looks pretty much unviewable. I shot it on my iphone 6+, which was in my pocket, and due to the temps in the high40's combined with moisture in my pocket, the lens was fogged up. I'm on a new laptop without any editing soft...

Cat-tle Canyon

My dog and I saw a momma and cub mt lion this morning in Cattle Canyon. Not sure if momma got caught on camera, but the little one froze. We were less than 100 feet away. Glad my dog was on leash because she likes to chase things and I was glad we stayed together. Momma was not very big. Certainly l...

Has anyone used Uber or Lyft for a trail shuttle?

I don't use any of those services, but I could see a few local adventures where it would make sense to use a service to assist a 1-way trip.

Can anyone that does use them weigh in on what would be the most convenient to have someone meet you at an appointed place/time?

Speaking of beer, anyone seen Sierra Nevada Celebration this season? I'm striking out, and usually it is everywhere. I just picked some up at my local Stater Bros (Claremont). I'll toast to you next one I open..... I grabbed some at BevMo last week. But usually Von's/Ralph's/CVS is dependable for s...

What a cool journey! I'm sure I could find it, but do you happen to have a waypoint for either of the waterfalls pictured (Royal Gorge or suspected Long Canyon)? Sure. The suspected Long Canyon fall would be at its confluence: http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/34 ... 9&layers=C I added the m...

Well, since BP sold to Anheiser Busch, I'm sure their availability will stay good......

I was fortunate enough to win Kern River's lottery so I've got some Citra IIPA in the fridge!

Lyme in Little Tujunga

I had a friend get a positive diagnosis of Lyme from a tick she saved. It was near Gold Creek, a tributary of Little Tujunga.

She pulled the tick out, saved it, and had her doctor test it. Luckily, she is early enough to be treated pretty easily.

Re: Raptor vid

When the video is paused the bird definitely looks a mature bald eagle. What's the location of the video? I should mention that he thought Golden Eagle was the only other option. I was on the ridge between the closed portion of 39 and Smith Rock, overlooking Bear Ck wilderness. I've read there is a...

There has been sabotage with nails on hwy2 also. My friend totaled his porsche and got a concussion. Found nails in his tire. Cops told him they are aware of it and are trying to stop it.

I found a grow site off the closed section of 39 just last week. Pipes going down to a creek with a bit of water. Bags of potting soil. It's certainly a bigger fear of mine than wildlife.

Hi, my name is Mike, I'm 38 years old living in Pasadena with my wife and 2 kids. I grew up in northern California and have been deeply involved in the outdoors most of my life. I started raft guiding at age 17, leading backpacking trips in college at UCSB, and did some very remote graduate fieldwor...
