Re: High Altitude Wildlife On Mt. Evans

I have a major scratch in the viewfinder from those beaver teeth. But I was noticing the same thing about their fur. Marmot coats might be the next thing.

High Altitude Wildlife On Mt. Evans

I’ve been photographing goats, sheep and marmots between the 13,000 and 14,000 level for the past month on Mt. Evans, so the animals are getting used to seeing me. There are virtually no predators at this altitude, so they’re a little more relaxed around humans. I was lucky enough to get some close ...

Here's a short clip of the San Antonio Canyon Falls on a day when some drunken idiot pushed a four year old off the top.

Re: There's A Yeti Under My Car

That was the first one I've ever seen. They're not native to Colorado, but Mt. Evans is one of the best places to find them. 14 mile road, the highest in North America, you can drive all the way to the top.

Re: There's A Yeti Under My Car

No, they're actually pretty dangerous. They've killed grizzlies before. But they lick salt off the passing cars. This one was licking something on the undercarriage.

There's A Yeti Under My Car

I've been looking for these mountain goats since I moved to Colorado.
Finally found one. He found something he liked under my car. People passing by thought I ran him over.

Apparently there's salt in the asphalt and on the sides of cars. They salt the roads up here in the winter.

Re: COQUINA MINE

The rock wall and fence are along the way as you walk up the canyon, on the left side. It used to be a bee farm. There's also an old tipped over utility truck on the right side. The patent date was from some old machinery on the side of the hill below the steam shovel. That stuff is all still up the...

Bighorns Eating Asphalt On Mt. Evans, Colorado

Mt. Evans is the highest peak in the Mount Evans Wilderness at 14,271-feet. The road leading to it is the highest paved road in North America. Each year the road gets damaged by the extreme weather and asphalt patches are made. Bighorn sheep and mountain goats love to lick and eat these patches, pre...

I'm not sure how you could be rescued if you got stuck in there. There's one point where it's so narrow you can't turn your head around.

Not for the claustrophobic, this crack is only eight inches wide at it's narrowest point. If you get stuck you're screwed.

The San Gabriel Mountains are harsh. The Mt. Lowe Railway was completely wiped out by fires, flood and wind. Nothing survives for long in those canyons.

Re: The Deadly PL&P Trail

That trail was originally supposed to go all the way to the Forks Dam, which would have been the largest in the world, but it was never completed. There was an entire construction city built near the merge of the three forks above the narrows. Also believe it or not there was a railroad that went up...

At one time they were trying to raise money to build a self cleaning restroom next to it. Would have cost 80K and never happened.
There's also a secret helipad where Ron the owner flies in every morning hidden in a side canyon

I have that same newspaper article. Thanks. The guy who wrote History of Pasadena was amazing. His wife was the first woman to ever reach Thalehaha Falls in Rubio Canyon. That's like the bible of everything that happened in that area in the late 1800s.

Re: Lower Millard, Baby!

That canyon used to be called Church Canyon. There was a civil war fugitive (Confederate) who got caught in California, He was tried and convicted for treason but instead of hanging him the court made a slave out of him and forced him to cut down trees for the lumber that built a church in downtown ...
