Re: Bighorns eating a barrel cactus, and a jack rabbit

You have to sneek up on em but they're somewhat used to humans. In the summer they lose that winter coat and look like the ones you photographed.

Re: Bighorns eating a barrel cactus, and a jack rabbit

Check this one out. An invasion of bighorns in Colorado. There were about 40 of them.

Re: The Deadly PL&P Trail

It doesn't go anywhere, so I'd say no reason to restore it. Could be done though with some shovels. The rock base is still sound.

Re: The Deadly PL&P Trail

Thanks. It seems to be getting worse every year with all the new dirt piling up. When it was flat they used to ride mules over it.

Re: The Deadly PL&P Trail

Those were sheep bones. They've been up in that same area for years, probably still there. The first time I crossed that was easy, but the second time storms had washed a lot of dirt down on the trail. One part has a 50 degree slope (scary).

Re: The Deadly PL&P Trail

I had a feeling somebody had found it since I dug it out of the brush.
It was in a slightly different location and the sign posts were kinda wacky. I doubt that many people have seen that.

Re: The Deadly PL&P Trail

I think that was the original location, just a mileage sign put up by the forest service. Supposedly when the trail was in good shape you could rent mules from Follows Camp and ride across it safely.

The Deadly PL&P Trail

I took this footage about a year ago, the second time I've crossed it. This trail (what's left of it) was built in 1911, so it's even older than the Wetwater Trail in the Narrows. The section I crossed was chiseled out with jackhammers. The Pacific Light & Power trail ran all the way from Camp B...

Here's a one minute short of San Antonio Canyon Falls (what people call Stoddard Canyon Falls).
On the day I shot this a moron was pushing little kids off the top, including a four year old.

Re: MILLARD FALLS & DAWN MINE

Here's some old shots of the in and around the mine before two of them were gated. There are three of them in all, one is fifty feet above the main, the third is about 1000 feet upstream. This was back in the day when I had a cheap camera and used a flash to take terrible photos. In the old days whe...

Re: The Creepy Mines & Cabins of Victor Colorado

There are tons of mines near where you live. I recommend the Big Horn if you're ever in the Wrightwood area. It's huge, and most parts are safe. A lot of people go in there, biggest in the San Gabriels. If you're ever in the San Diego area I'd recommend checking out the Eagle Mine, they give tours. ...

The Creepy Mines & Cabins of Victor Colorado

The Victor and Cripple Creek region was the second biggest producer of gold in U.S. history. There are still mines galore out here and many of the structures are still standing. I put up two videos on YouTube, the abandoned Miners Cabins and Abandoned Mines. These are just a few of the over 500 mine...

Re: Snakes On A Plain - A Crazy Rattlesnake Infested Prairie In Colorado Springs

That prairie was getting too insane. Lucky I got those snake gators at the right time. The anti-venom for those snakes is at least a hundred grand.

If I do any more skulls I'm going back to the more condensed restaurant grade peroxide. It does a way better job, way faster. Just a little pricey.

Snakes On A Plain - A Crazy Rattlesnake Infested Prairie In Colorado Springs

Ever since I moved to Colorado I've been wanting to film rattlesnakes, but wasn't quite sure where to look. Then one day I saw a story on the local news about a six year old boy who was bit by a Prairie Rattlesnake at Bluestem Prairie Open Space. Sadly he died four days later. But that gave me the t...

Re: Dead Animals

Taxidermy is pricey. Depends on how big the animal is. If you find something that is in good shape they recommend you freeze it as soon as possible. There are also good and bad taxidermists, so make sure you view a few photos of what they've done before. For fish they charge by the inch, about $11 t...

Re: Dead Animals

That stuff was found on the prairie, east side of Colorado Springs. There aren't any rodents with skulls that big out here other than prairie dogs. One skull had a damaged eye socket, so they were probably killed by hawks or falcons.. There are badgers out here too. That would be a dream find. Googl...

Re: Dead Animals

A few new additions to my morbid collection.
The first are skulls from prairie dogs.
The second is a dead antelope. I broke the skull of the rest of the skeleton and took it home to bleach.

Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs

Recently I got the hell out of California and moved to Colorado. I'll miss the San Gabriels and Joshua Tree, but the Rockies are way more awesome. No trash or graffiti and the weather is even sunnier than California. I'm lucky enough to live ten minutes from Garden of the Gods, the coolest city park...

Re: East Fork: Devil Gulch Falls and Iron Fork

Yeah, that's where his Trogden's cabins were. The first one was right behind the table. It was abandoned by some Mormons and Trogden threw a tarp over the ruins to keep it watertight. That one he gave to his son in law, and that became his ranch. His mule corral was up on a mesa. That whole area use...

Re: East Fork: Devil Gulch Falls and Iron Fork

Nice shots. There's a long forgotten mine up in Ross Gulch. Sounds like you got pretty close to it. That lizard is called a western whiptail.
Did you notice all the signatures carved into that rock table at Trogden's Camp? One's from 1929, same year George Trogden and Oliver Justice died.

That Victrola (frame) is still in there. Weighs a ton, so I doubt anyone will ever steal that. How the guy who stole it from the Echo Mountain House ever got it all the way to that mine is a mystery to me.

I'm not sure if they do presentations. You should go to one of their meetings and just sit in. You don't have to join. And if you do it's only 20 bucks a year.
